Yes, growing a giant pumpkin requires lots of preparation time if you want to join in the Giant Pumpkin Parade at Pumpkinfest in Wellington on October 13th. Saturday, April 14th, 1:00 pm at the Bloomfield Town Hall. FREE Giant Pumpkin Grower's Seminar. Top quality seeds for sale, growing instructions and tips. Information exchange and draws for prizes. The first consid- eration is getting some good seeds with great genetics. Many, many years ago, Howard Dill from Windsor, Nova Scotia, cross-bred pumpkins and giant Hungarian squash and developed his own unique copyrighted seed and named it the Atlantic Giant. This became the seed that has produced all of the Giant Pumpkins that we now hear about at the various pumpkin weigh-offs throughout the world. Last year produced another World Record with a pumpkin weighing in at 1502 pounds. On Saturday, April 14th, the Prince Ed- ward County Pumpkin Grower’s Association in conjunction with the Pumpkinfest Committee will be holding a Free Grower’s Seminar at 1:00 pm in the Town Hall in Bloomfield. Featured will be our own John Vin- cent from Northport who will give a play by play description on how you can grow some giant veg- etables including pumpkins. John is also an area representative for the Giant Vegetable Growers of Ontario and will be introducing another interest- ing giant vegetable that we will have in competi- tion this year. The Long Gourd. We will also have some free draws for hats and seeds and we will have some excellent seeds for sale at bargain prices. All proceeds will be used for prizes at our 2007 weigh-off. So mark the date on your calendar. April 14th at 1:00 pm in Bloomfield. See you there.
