|The South Marysburgh Mirror 19] Roots ‘n Wings - Cont'd from page 12 St. Philip’s was like coming home, with the church bathed in candlelight and decorated with evergreen boughs and poin- settias while the soft strains of Silent Night were being sung. It’s at events such as these, as well as the wonderful church dinners in the area that I have met so many of you, and your warmth has made us feel so welcome. A service at St. Philip’s is like attending a family reunion with Christ as the guest of honour. There is always a friendly welcome at the door and a chorus of greetings from those already assembled, and a chance to relax after- wards over a cookie and a cup of coffee or tea at our coffee hour. St. Philip’s is a church with a lot of energy, lots of events and activities, and a dynamic ministry to the com- munity. As a church community, we are always ready to welcome and support new members. Reading the South Marysburgh Mirror is al- ways enjoyable, and so the people of St. Philip’s and I are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to this fine Milford community paper. What all of this means, is that from time to time, various people from St. Philip’s will contribute an article describing some aspect of the life of our church. We will explore our roots, both from a historic perspective and a faith per- spective, and we will let you know where our ‘wings’ are taking us with upcoming events and happenings! We hope you will enjoy reading our column, and re- member, our doors are always open. Blessings, Janet+ NEW PARTS FOR TOYOTA, HONDA, MAZDA, SAAB, DELIVERY AVAILABLE. THE LAST WORD - Continued from page 20 e I would venture to suggest that we all know the answer yet are, it seems, powerless to act. e Remember that the CO2 gases created by the 3 millions or more masses in Toronto area are sent East by the prevailing winds. e = Their health problems as a result are increasing- ly becoming ours in our ‘one time rural para- dise.” *O.K Ihave read enough’ you may say, and I say, ‘I have said enough.” I don’t want to become de- pressed over this. What to do? Because I want my friends grandchildren to have a good place in which to live I will encourage vot- ing GREEN PARTY at the next federal election and a move to proportional representation. We need to pres- sure our Government to take REAL and effective action. (The last Bill was an emt every Canadian.) We need to pressure our Provinces and our cities and municipalities to do likewise. If collective- ly we could bring about a complete HALT endless growth; a HALT to increasing greenhouse gas emis- sions, followed by annual reductions of several percent- age points, the problem is solvable. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY! WE ALL HAVE A PART TO PLAY. Turn your home thermostat down | or 2 degrees in winter and wear a sweater, and reverse the process during the summer cooling season. Stop buying gas guzzling trucks and SU- V’s. When yours eventually dies or comes up for re- placement, please obtain one with significantly reduced. fuel consumption/improved KPL. If we stop buying them the car manufacturers will have to stop making them. Simple economics! The answer will only come if the public makes a collec- tive decision. That decision begins right here in PEC with you and me. Are we up to it? Bill Y: Friend. oF the County.
