Motor Cases in Court Friday was s field day in the Police Court for automobile cases. Several im- portant decisions were given in reference to right of and eight cases of "lights out" drew a penalty from the Bench. The case laid against Geo. B. McLean by Chief King was dismissed, and His Wor- ship in dismissing it said that it was slmost & physical impossibility for a motorist 10 keep to the right-of-way when making the turn from Elizabeth street on to Bayfield. On August 16, about 11.30 p.m., Geo. McLean: drove his cur st moderate pace along Elizabeth towards the Five Points. He was sbout to turn on to Bayfield, when he noticed a car driven by Mr, Brit» ton, now of Chatham and formerly of Bar- rie, coming down Clapperton street, Mr. McLean stepped his car dead but the other car ran into him. The matter was, apparently, amicably settled between the two miotoriste. but Mr. McLean was sum- moned under By-Law 889. which is the local by-law to regulate traffic in the pub lic streets. Alex. Cowan appeared for Mr. McLean, and the case created considerabie interegt as it appeared to be a decision as right-of-way when turning this cor- ner. P.M. Radenhurst personally viewed the scene, and after considering the evid ence dismissed the case. each party to pay his own costs, Fred Bolter of Toronto was fined $5 and costs (over $17 in all), the Court finding that be was on the wrong side of the street when his car and one driven by 'Chas. Harris of Grenfel collided on Brad- ford street, on the afternoon of August 16, The case was Iai art, on the instig: \ ald Ross sppesring for Mr. Bolter and Alex Cowan for Mr. Harris. From the evid- ence of Mr. Bolter he claims to have thought Harris was about to turn to the left to go on to Vespra street. and that he also turned slightly to the left to avoid Mr. Harris' car. The latter, claimed that he had simply turned slightly to the left to avoid something on the pave- ment and that he was still on the right side of the road. The Magistrate found that Mr. Harris, who was going but ten miles an hour, was on the right side of the road, and that Mr. Bolter had not his car under sufficient control to avoid the col- of twenty miles an hour. It is said that Mr, Bolter will appeal the case. ever is running the poitical campaign for TRUE CORSET ECONOMY IS RIGHT CORSET because every woman can be comfortably fitted in a fashionable Corset when she realizes that this means obtaining support where it is most needed.
