Halton HilisThis Week, Wednesday, July-22, 1992, Page 3 Stun gun amnesty announced Halton Regional Police announced Monday an “amnesty” period for all individuals who have purchased or otherwise have in their possession stun guns. The amnesty period is effective immediately and will expire August 12, 1992. Stun guns will be accept- ! ed at any Halton Regional Police station within this period, a police press release said. : According to the release, “no charges will be laid unless the stun gun has been used in the commis- sion of an offence”. Police will hold the stun guns for 30 days and then they will be destroyed. Canada’s Attorney General, Kim Campbell, announced earlier this summer that effective July 10, 1992, stun guns are a prohibited Under the Criminal Code of Canada, it is an offence to be in Possession of a prohibited weapon, the media release added. The offence caries a maximum penalty upon conviction of five years imprisonment. A 19-year-old Georgetown man has been charged with child abuse and assault after a five-month-old baby was found to have suffered bruising to his face. According to police, the baby — the son of the man accused — w: left in the man’s care of the several times between March and July. During those times, police allege “the suspect pinched (the baby’s) nose and depressed his tongue to stop him from crying”. As well the baby suffered bruising to his face while “feeding and burping” were taking place. Police say the suspect also would not change the baby’s diapers. The man is set to make an appearance in a Milton Court August 31.
