PAGE 12 FEBRUARY 7, 1979 SCHREIBER PARKS & RECREATION | QO + COMMITTEE WINTER FUNFEST: Our Funfest got a good shot in the arm on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when eight of ten groups attended the first organizing meeting. There is no schedule at this time, however, the Royal Can- adian Legion Branch 109 will do a Beardgrowing contest, the Schreiber Kinsmen Club have agreed to do the Kangaroo Kourt, the Funfest Queen contest possibly will be handled by the Kin- ettes, the local Ontario Provincial Police will be releasing information on the snow sculptures and the judging of same, Schreiber Fire Department will assist in hosting the contrap- tion races, the recreation and arena/ communi ty centre building fund committees will do the races for the children and family, put on dances for the pre-teen, teens, adults, the Schreiber Student Council wilt, hopefully co-ordinate their carnival with the Funfest. We are also tentatively scheduling a community dinner that the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion, the U.C.W., C.W.l., A.C.W. have been requested to assist with. Other ev- ents tentatively scheduled are snowmobile races, road hockey, broomball games, hopefully the latter two are in the good hands of the Ontario Metis Association. Buttons will be made and sold at a $1.00 fee, there will be several raffles for various prizes. As further developments come about they will be publicized. ARENA UPDATE: The dance on January 26 netted $297.00 thanks to all that worked at and attended the function; special thanks to Jim Figliomeni for his great support, hockey pools are being ran by Evelyn Thrower, Evelyn also .ran a raffle which brought in $155.00, the winner was Rick St. Louis, #11 Elizabeth St., Terrace Bay. Bmll Smilsky is handling the sale of complex but- tons, the canvassers are having a big response from the citiz- ens in collecting new pledges, payroll deductions and cash. If you need new forms for payroll deductions contact the rec- reation office. : y Events being planned for the near and distant future are 50/50 draw for a trip to Las Vagas - contact Norm Boon, sever- al dances for young and old - Larry Davis, Bill Collinson, Jr., Bill Souliere, several raffles, more hockey pools and bingos for children and adults. In the month of January we amassed $11,398.00 cash and $2,240.00 payroll deductions for a total of $13,638.00. Much has been included in the last total financial report. We thank all for their support and if it continues we will reach our objective for 1979. REQUESTS FOR UNIFORMS: Anyone having any knowledge of equipment belonging to the Boy Scouts of Schreiber, please contact the Schreiber Recrea-~ tion office. SKI CHALLENGE: The North Superior Ski Challenge will be held on Saturday, February 24, 1979 in Schreiber. The cross country challenge will be an 18 km. run and is open to all recreational skiers. TERRACE BAY NEWS 'CRAFTS PROGRAM: The challenge is not a race, but rather a chance to get out and ski to enjoy the scenery and complete the course. It will all : start at Graham's fam at 10 a.m.. Entry forms are available from the Schreiber Recreation Office. CHIMO CLUB: . : In the near future a survey will be done by the Recreation : Office to determine the needs of senior citizens. This is an=- hy other step in securing documentation for the Chimo Club sub- mission to the Elderly Persons Centre Act. The collection of information is going very well and we should submit to the Ministry of Community and Social Services in the next few weeks EXPERIENCE '79: The Ministry of Culture and Recreation will be forwarding information on Experience '79 programs to the Recreation Office and schools within the month. |f you are interested in making application please keep checking with the above mentioned agencies. = SUMMER EMPLOYMENT: ; Students are reminded that grants are being applied for by the recreation office and if approved will be seeking employees If you are interested please come to the Recreation Office and obtain an employment form. By filling in this form in no way gives nor guarantees you a summer position; just allows us to know you are interested. The afgan blanket raffle held by Mrs. Racioppi was drawn-on February 1st at the Junior Hockey Bingo was won by Linda Rac- ioppi of Fort Frances. Proceeds of $53.50 went towards the new complex. We have two instructors who are willing to help with this program. 'We are in the process of planning the program and deciding on dates, times and place. If anyone would like to assist with this program please give us your name at the Rec office. FOUR WEEK PROGRAM: The grade 5 & 6 seemed to enjoy their game of volleyball on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Team A and 'Team D took victories. Don't miss their next game on Tuesday, February 6. Grade 7 & 8 volleyball was challenging for both girls and boys. Girls Team B and Boys Team A won their games. Thése games are played every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30.. Parents and spectators are invited to watch. y CONFEDERATION COLLEGE PROGRAMS: Social~and Modern Dancing: Get on your dancing shoes for Sun. Feb. 18, Mond. Feb. 19 and Sun. Feb. 25, Mon. Feb. 26. Pro- gram will be held at the Holy Angels School Gym. It is an 18 hour program. Anyone interested please register at the recrea- tion office. Deadline for registration is Feb. 12, 1979. We have not received further information concerning the following: Chinese Cooking; Mixology, Income Tax Workshop, Bricklaying. Due to Confederation being on strike, information has been delayed. Interested persons please give your name at the Recreation Office. Ontario Provincial Police in co-operation with Schreiber Rec -reation will be conducting an information night dealing with cross country skiing and bush survival.
