OF THUNDER BAY HOME FOR THE AGED _ The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Home'for the Aged was held at Birch wood Terrace on Friday, January 19, 1979. Accounts for the months of November and December, 1978 were approved both for Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terrace. Minor Capital Budget for the year 1979 was also approved for Pinewood Court in the amount of $56,000.00. If approved by the Ministry it will allow for room renovations. Room conversions will be completed at Pinewood Court as well as plans for a new Tuck Shop area as the present area will be converted to a double room. The Capital Budget for Birchwood Terrace was approved in the amount of $31,000.00 and it includes an indoor greenhouse and capital replacements of furnishings in the lounge. There were two Residents approved for admission to Pinewood Court and five for Birchwood Terrace when space is available. The Board was informed of the terminations of Mrs. Erna Soren- sen as Kitchen Supervisor of Pinewood Court and also of Mrs. Daphne Mclean, Housekeeping Supervisor. Both began employment in 1968 and their terminations were accepted with regret by the Board. Approval for Heads of Staff salary increases of approximate- ly 5% was given. The Agreement between the Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Home for the Aged and the Ontarig Nurses! Association was- ratified for the period January 1, 1978 to December 31, 1978, subject -to the Anti-Inflation Board ap- proval. The date of the Annual Meeting was set for March 30, 1979 at Pinewood Court. Final appointments to the Board will be made at this meeting for the two year term beginning March 1, 1979. The Board was pleased to know that both Homes have operated within their Budget in 1978 which is a credit to all staff. The $23.00 per diem is now below the average for Northern Ont- ario Homes of similar size. However, the Extended Care rate is CONTINUED PAGE 2 COUNCIL QUOTES The regular meeting of the Council of the Township of Terrace Bay was held on January 22 in the Council Chambers with all members in attendance. : Minutes of the previous regular and special meetings were adopted as presented. Marj Hamilton was appointed representative for the Child- ren's Welfare Budget Board and will stand for election. By-law No. 322 was passed, being a by-1aw to establish a monthly allowance for the Reeve and for the members of coun- cil. The Island View Service quotation for the supply of gaso- line for municipal vehicles for the period of February 1, 1979 to December 31, 1979 was accepted. Phillips, Wils and Milton will be engaged to survey lots in Terrace Court, Terrace Heights, Timbergrove Road and Court Space and the new landfill site. The composite insurance policy for the period beginning on January 29, 1979 was given to Baxter Insurance as represented by the Frank Cowan Company. Council will advertise for an office clerk-typist for duties in the Municipal and Police Offices. Previous to the meeting, council spoke with a representa- tive of Wardrop and Associates regarding roads in Terrace Heights. This year, work will be concentrated on completing the engineering ground work, straightening the main road and applying a layer of gran ar 'A! material. When this base work is completed, which will likely be next year, paving will begin.
