WOMEN'S CHAPTER 1426 AND DISTRICT MEMBERS Loyal Order of Monge I752, TERRACE BAY, ONTARIO slabs, NORTHERN. AFFAIRS BY JIM TRISTRAM NAP da At this time of year when nome fires most frequently occur why not give your family a very special Christmas gift - a smoke detector. National statistics have shown that close to two thirds of all reported fires-occur in the home and most of them begin when the occupants are in bed and asleep. The protection of your home and family from fire loss depends on a three point program; reducing fire hazards in your home, establishing a fire escape and providing an early warning systen. Smoke detectors read a fire signal and set-off an audible alam. There are two types of smoke detectors: ionization and photoelectric. Both are effective in warning occupants, but the degree of effectiveness varies. lonization detectors are relatively effective in detecting smoke from fires even before the smoke is visible. Photoelec- tric units, according to some tests may respond more quickly than the activated detectors. Be sure that any unit you buy has been tested by Underwrit- er's Laboratories of Canada.
