PAGE 6 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 8, 1978 CWL PLANS PENNY AUCTION The regular monthly meeting of the Catholic Womens League was held on Oct. 10/78 in the parish hall. A letter was read from a young Indian girl who was thanking the parish for the gift of a sewing machine which she recieved as a result of the collection the C.W.L. had last Christmas. She is most grateful becuase it pemits her to help in the support of her family. Petitions were circulated concerning: a) Indecency in advertis- ing; b) Canadian Unity, which are being sent around by the Nat- ional Office. Members were told about a very important tele- vision program called "Meeting Place" which is aired every Sun- day at 11 a.m. on channels 2 & 5. Pat McGraw read an article on "Christian Family" giving suggestions on how to bring fam- ilies closer together. The Community Life convenor Mary Clare Kennedy spoke on the "Leadership Course" and if anyone is inten -ested they can get further details from Edna Ramsey. Gertie Pineault was thanked for the hard work she did while filling the position of Kitchen convener. Volunteers are needed for this convenorship. The Christmas meeting was discussed and it was decided to have a "Multi-Cultural Pot Luck Supper. It will possibly be held on Dec. 10 which is the second Sunday in Dec. The convenor for this event will be Mary Clare Kennedy. Penny Auction plans were finalized and volunteers were called on for Sat. and Sun. of that weekend. Free tickets are to be distrib- uted to the senior citizens. The Remembrance Day wreath will be layed this year by Mrs, E. Falzetta. Members were asked to consider having a C.W.L. cook book published. A resolutions convenor is required and the president gave a discription of how effective good resolutions can be and it is hopeful that someone will volunteer for this position. Father Murtagh spoke on the "Day of Recollection" to be held either on Sun. Dec. 3 from 4 = 10 p.m. or if this not convenient for the majority of the Catholic ladies, we will choose an evening during the week. Scripture classes have begun and will continue for several Mon- days from 8 - 10 p.m. The meeting was adjourned and a coffee hour followed. The next regular meeting will be held on Nov. 14, so all members please try to attend. THE PENNY AUCTION SALE: sponsored by the C.W.L. which was held on Sunday, Oct. 29, was a big success. The lucky winner of the 100 gal. of fuel oil, donated by Jim Mikus, was Mrs. C. Schock of Terrace Bay. Louis Arsenault won the cake donated by Ann Latour. Hughena Wight won the pillow and rug. The door prizes donated by Costa's and the Red Dog Inn, were won by Lara Santerre and Suzanne Black respectively. We would like to thank all the businesses in Terrace Bay and Schreiber, and all the parishioners of St. Martin's who donated so-generously to the Penny Auction. Thank you to all the people who sold tick- ets, who did the phoning, who helped, who gave much time and energy. Without you, this activity would not have been a success. Ladies Auxiliaries to the Legion boast almost 100,000 members.
