MARTIN GBADE EIGHT GRADUATION St. Martin School was the scene of a lovely graduation ceremony on June 27th, when twenty-one students received their certificates for completing grade eight. The ceremonies began with Mass at St. Martin Church, foll- owed by dinner in the Parish Hall. Pins and certificates were then distributed by Mrs. L. Belliveau, C.W.L. president, in the St. Martin gym. Those graduating were Tom Bouchard, David Chepelsky, Kim Dakin, Mona Dakin, Ronnie Dakin, Eleanor DePaola, Dorothy Kennedy, Guy Kodila, Donna Lapenskie, David McBride, Althea Morriseau,'Angela Morriseau, Tommy O'Neil, Michael Pedersen, Donna Shynkaryk, Kim St. Louis, Paulette Theriault, Danny Vienneau, Darlene Woods, Laura Zwaresh and Lorna Zwaresh. Five special awards were given: "School Spirit" award, for the graduate who best indicated pride in school and a high level of rapport with students and staff as well as giving generously of herself to further promote the school, was awarded to Donna Shynkaryk by Mrs. R. McBride, Board Trustce; ; : "Athletic Proficiency" award, for the student who has shown a high level of athletic proficiency, a spirit of competi- tiveness, and good sportsmanship, was received by two student -s, Kim Dakin and Danny Vienneau, and given by Mr. E. McAdam, Grade 8 teacher; "Most Progress" award, for the graduate who has demonstrated a desire to improve in work quality and effort and has sus- tained improvement throughout the year, was presented to David McBride by Miss Joan Powell, grade 6 and 7 teacher; "Deserving Student" award for the graduate who has demon- strated a high level of ability coupled with sincere effort, as evidenced in continuous high achievement, was given to two students, Angela Morriseau and Michael Pedersen, by Mr. B. Lapenskie, Knights of Columbus representative; "Academic Proficiency" award, for the graduate who has achieved the highest marks, was presented to Donna Lapenskie by Mr. R. Kenney. Donna Lapenskie also acted as class valedictorian, and an excerpt from her speech is as follows "We will be moving on to more education that may, in a few years, help us to decide on our futures. A word of advice to my fellow grad- uates - when we get to high school, make wise decisions and, like the saying goes, keep your noses clean. Be ready for whatever should cross your paths = be it #11 winds or fair weather, Mr. A. Speziale, Principal, and Mr. E. McAdam, class teacher, addressed the graduates following award presenta- tions. The Recorder Trio and the Ukelele Group provided musical entertainment, and the ceremonies concluded with a dance in the gym, with music by the Commisso Brothers. Fore! Mr. Bell and his wife were on the links. His first shot sliced across the creek and hit another woman. Her husband was in- censed. "You hit my wife with your ball," he shouted.
