PERSONAL FITNESS: We have just received a pamphlet from the Ministry of Culture and Recreation on "A Guide to Personal Fit- ness"s [f you wish a copy please drop in at the Recreation Office. NEW ARENA CONTRACT: The tender price by Gateway Builders & Supply of Thunder Bay, re: the new arena is firm until June 30, 1978. There has been rumours circulating that the contract had become void. At present we are awaiting approval from Wintario on eligibility for funding. Our infomation is that it should be here shortly. SCHREIBER WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: Members of the Schreiber Women's Institute answered the roll call at their May meeting by donating toys to children or other prizes for their Penny Auction planned for Jung 2nd, when a grocery hamper will be the draw prize. President Mavis Slater welcomed Mrs. Myrtle Gordon as a new member, and Mrs. |rene Morey and Mrs. Margaret Tiboni as guests. Motto for the meeting was 'Character shapes one's destiny!. Current events mentioned included Rossport!s plan to fom a fire "brigade; the increase of child abuse; and the baila of the hospital in Terrace Bay. Eight members attended the district annual aalids on May 17 in the Jackpine Community Centre, with Mrs. Slater, Mrs. Ann Todesco and Mrs. Winnie Clemens as voting delegates. A life membership will be purchased for Mrs. Nettie Thrower a long-time member. Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society for the Donations to the 8 Cancer Cupboard from the Schreiber W.l. The Provincial Secretary for Social Development in Ontario sent a circular stating the saat of May was designated as Fam: -ily Unity Month and asked women's organizations to promote the idea by means of projects or events involving the whole fant Tyee Mrs. Wesley Clemens was nominated as Branch Convener of b Education and Cultural Activities. Mrs. Eirene Harness will & % be convener of Citizenship and World Affairs for the Branch. = In tribute to Mothers' Day suitable selections were read yd Winnie Campbell and Wirmie Clemens, with Mrs. Slater reading an interesting account of the origin of this occasion which began = in 1913 in Pennsylvania, = A mothers! day contest was won by Mrs. Clemens and Mrs. John.
