The regular meeting began at 7:00 p.m., attended by Reeve C. Brassard, Councillors M, Hamilton, G. Ramsay, P. Romanuk cand K, Macleod, Clerk-Co-ordinator W, Hanley and M, Simmer. The minutes of the regular and special meetings were adopt- ed as presented. The following accounts were approved for payment: Township $267,413.58; Hydro $39,203.20; Library $2,332.68 and Recrea- tion $19,515. 44. Roy Cornfield has been given permission to attend the Con- struction Inspectors! Training Course in Thunder Bay May 1st to 5th. Bill Zroback and Marj Hamilton will be attending the Zone #1 Chiefs of Police meeting in Marathon on May 5th. The annual Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association in Thunder Bay May 11 - 13th, will be attended by Reeve C. Brassard and Councillors M, Hamilton, G. Ramsay, K. MacLeod "and P. Romanuk, while Bill Hanley will attend the Zone 9 Clerk ~Treasurer's meeting in Thunder Bay May 10-11th. Mrs. A. Yates has been hired as full-time maintenance care- taker for the Recreation Centre. A letter was written to request permission from Kimberly- Clark to purchase lot 275 on Kenogami Road for use as a "tot Tot" or playground area and right of way for stom drainage line, - Ji A new by-law was salad which: states that all dogs will require a license and will not be allowed to roam unsupervised. Penalties for failure of owners to comply with law will go through provincial court. Council will be advertising for a by-law enforcement officer for dog control. Continued page 2 .... STOKES HONOURED Schreiber was the site of a gathering of New Democrats from across Northern Ontario Saturday. The Annual Meeting of the Lake Nipigon NDP was held in the afternoon with federal candi- date Bob Fortin and MPP Jack Stokes, the Speaker of the Leg- islature addressing the assembled delegates. Mr. Fortin attacked the Trudeau government for its handling of unemploy- ment, the economy, and the National debt. Mr. Stokes spoke to the delegates about his work over the last year and the way in which he is trying to conduct himself both as Lake Nipigon's MPP and as Speaker. The out going executive spoke of the work done in the Provincial Election in which Jack Stokes was suc- cessfully re-elected and of the ground work laid for the com= ing federal election which is rapidly shaping up to be just as successful. The incoming executive is headed by President Harry Huskins, of Terrace Bay; Vice President Ted Nyman of Nipigon; Vice President Bill Gerow of Schreiber and Secretary Elizabeth Perrault of Schreiber. A dinner attended by the members of the Riding Association and guests followed the Anpual Meeting. In a light hearted - evening session fellow MPP's, Members of the support staff from Queen's Park, labour leaders and old friends recalled incidents from Jack's past. MPP's Jim Foulds, Marion Bryden, Pat Lawlor and lan Deans conveyed messages of respect and ad- miration for Jack and support for the work he is doing as a Northern Member and as Speaker. Mr. Stokes was presented with: a scroll signed by all the members of the NDP caucus, a card from the support staff of the legislature, and a slate which has been part of the legislative building from its construc- tion and which unfortunately came down in this winter's storms.
