Northern'Ontario lost a riding, our Riding of Thunder Bay, when the government drew the electoral boundaries last summer. The total number of seats in the House of Commons from Ontario has gone up. The increase has been in southern Ontario and it was considered necessary that we loose the seat of Thun- der Bay to balance this increase. As a result of the re-distribution the Provincial Riding we live in, Lake Nipigon represented by Jack Stokes, has parts of four federal constituencies overlapping it. Kenora-Rainy River, Thunder Bay-Atikokan, Thunder Bay-Nipigon and Cochrane. Terrace Bay and Schreiber are now in the Cochrane federal riding which has parts of Jack Stokes! Lake Nipigon, Bud Wildman's Algoma and the Cochrane North provincial ridings. [f that isn't confusing nothing ever will be. : The new riding of Cochrane starts at the Nipigon river bridge, but does not include the town of Nipigon. The boundary extends north up the shore of the Nipigon River and Lake Nipigon, but then cuts back across the river just enough to take in Cameron Falls, A town in which nobody lives. The boundary extends east from the shore of Lake Nipigon to just north of Nekina where it hits the boundary of Patricia District and then strikes due north to the shores of Hudson Bay and the borders of the Northwest Territories. One of the more irresponsible anomalies of this re-distribution is that the town of Auden on the CAR line just north of Lake Nipigon has not been included in this Riding. By sitting down in Ottawa and drawing a coloured line on a map it has been included in Thunder Bay~Nipigon. The MP who represents Auden at a time when it is undergoing a major expansion and is encountering serious social and economic problems will have to drive 150 miles inside the boundaries of the Cochrane Riding an and then back across the electoral line just to get to this community. The Tine strikes Hudson Bay west of Winisk and then follows the coastline east and south along James Bay to a point 10 miles north of Moosonee. A wandering line brings it back down the Moose and Abitibi rivers. Cuts west again north of Timmins, and strikes Lake Superior between Wawa and White River. The major transportation arteries are Highways 11 and 17. Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Marathon, and White River lie .along.the new ridings Lake Superior shore. Horne- payne and Manitouwadge provide links up to Highway 11 along which is centred the largest proportion of the new seat's population. Starting at the Nipigon bridge and "the junction of 11 and 17, the Riding includes Beardmore, Geraldton, Nakina, Longlac, Hearst, Kapus- kasing, Smooth Rock Falls and the town of Cochrane it- self at the eastern extremity.
