pubilc Library Terrace Bay, | Ont. VOLUME 21 NO. M1 MARCH 15, 1978 20¢ PER COPY Overture Concert Series MORISSET & BOUCHARD Victor Bouchard and Renee Morisset, internationally recog- nized keyborad artists, presented a superior program of two- piano music at the Terrace Bay Campus of the Lake Superior High School on Wednesday evening of March 8th for the Overture Concert Series. They played to a capacity crowd who encircled the pair with "their grand pianos, in a very informal setting for a relaxing evening of fine music. ; Two-piano playing is not an easy task and it requires years of close collaboration which lends its success to husband and wife team-work. By closing one's eyes one could imagine per- haps, that the pianos were being played by a single person with an ambidexterous mind and four hands. The program consisted of five selections covering a broad range of musical styles from early keyborad to modern. Poulenc's Sonata for Two Pianos written in 1953 was bril- liantly handled by the pair. When the pianists joined one another for the selection of Strauss! waltzes on one piano we had some fingers tapping in the audience fo see if we could recognize all sixteen of them. (Some tell me they did). The program ended with Franz Listz! Concerts Pathetique a skillful, impressive variety of expression in superb harmony, _ never a hint of confusion or hesitancy in their playing. The audience warmed to them immediately and continued to build up their enthusiasm to a standing ovation at the finale. The artists then favoured us with an encore by playing a short modern piece by the French composer, Poulenc. The committee in entertaining Mr. 'and Mrs. Bouchard after : the performance were very interested to hear a little of their family backgrounds - both have been playing since about the age of five; attended the Quebec Music Academy in the early forties married and decided to perform as a duo-piano team. Their early married 1ife began in Paris where they studied together. Continued page 2 «es.
