PAGE 16 TERRACE BAY NEWS Schreiber Parks and Recreation .CROSS-COUNTRY SKI CLINIC: The clinic was a success with all persons attending, that registered. The various types of equipment was explained, waxing and de- waxing procedures, care of skis, boots. Saturday and Sunday saw the people go through a series of movements on their equipment and general skiing ventures. CHINESE COOKING: At this time we have thirteen people wishing to take this program once set up with the College. Fifteen will be taken then names will be put on a wal ting list in case of cancella- tions. WEAVING: At this writing only three people have shown interest. We need at least twelve. No fees have been established, however the dates are April 10 - 14th inclusive. A change due to un- forseen instructor illness. NORTH SHORE JUNIOR HOCKEY: Next game is on Thursday, March 2nd, 1978. ARENA UPDATE: To date the following has been collected: cash $4,165.00; pledges $15,990.00; payroll deduction $10.00 for a total of $30,155.00. The new arena tenders were opened on Wednesday, February 8th at the Town Office. Seven contractors bid for the construction and were revealed by Reeve McParland and Don McKinnon of MM Dillion. Tuesday, February 14th, 1978, the Schreiber Town Council agreed to proceed. with the new Arena as phase 1 of a proposed complex. Scheduled for Phase 2 is a Curling Rink 'and Communi ty Hall. The submission to the government will be as one package in order to take full advantage of the existing grants. Canvassers are back on the streets for cash, pledges, pay- roll deductions. Let's get together and raise the necessary monies for the Arena so the other phase can be started. The Council has done the part a great number of people were calling for, a decision, now it is up to the communi ty. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURLING: Standings as of February 15, 1978 are the St. Jean rink in front with a 5-1 record, F. Costa second at 5-2, Miller, - Roen, Legacy at 4-2, Speziale_in fourth with 3 win = 3 losses, Campbell at 2-3, Gionet and Blais 2-4, Moore 2-5, Mills 1-4 and Costa 1-5. The Feb. 8th game was cancelled because it being. 4 Ash Wednesday. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT: Students looking for summer employment with the recreation = department should come to the office and fill in the necessa Vis forms. There is no guarantee of a position - this will depend on the awarding of grants that have been applied for by the office. RECREATION COMMITTEE: H Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee will remain in tact for the 1978 year with the one vacancy being filled by Barbara Mclaughlin. Sub-committees have not been set to date but will be in the near future. Those sitting are Bill Collinson, Lorraine Huard, Doris Gauthier, Peter Speziale, Don Davey, Marlene Doig, Barbara McLaughlin.
