The Lakehead School of Hockey was one of the first to wigiod operation in North America. Since, hundreds of schools have attempted a-summer hockey program. Today, only a handful re- main to give those needing extra ice time and assistance a chance to improve their knowledge of the game. Two exceptional hockey coaches have been added to the 17- member staff. Although both are fine hockey players in their own right, they excel in teaching the game. The twa are Brian McLeod and Doug Colben. Brian Mcleod played junior hockey in London and then for Queen's University. He played senior for both Fort William Beavers and Port Arthur Bearcats and for the past seven years has coached Hammarskjold High teams. He's attained level five in the Certified Coaching program, as high as you can go.- Brian runs the hockey program for the West End Association. He knows his hockey and is a superior coach. Doug Colben played junior in the Northern Ontario League and was at Michigan Tech for a season. While at the University of Waterloo, they captured the Canadian Intercollegiate Cham- pionship. He then spent a year at Lakehead "U" and then played senior hockey with Thunder Bay Twins. He's coached Selkirk High to the league title last year. Doug is currently a level three certified coach. Max Mekilek, former Western Hockey League scoring champ and new manager of Thunder Bay Twins is back for his ninth season as is Barton Bradley, chief western scout for Boston Bruins.
