The next question was how the Board was ap- pointed. The Chairman explained that five Board members were appointed by the sixteen Municipalities and two members by the Province for two year terms. A further question was how knowledgeable the Board was on the operat- «- ion of Birchwood Terrace. The Board was able to explain that they were responsible for set- ting policies for both Homes and they were quite aware of their operations on their own assessment and information submitted by the Administrator. Some of the questions centered on the temin -ation in September of the Supervisor of Care Services. The Board explained that they had been made aware of the concerns of the Adminis ---trator as early as December, 1976 when proba- tion was extended from three to six months. The Chairman also read a detailed report by the Administrator of the events leading up to the termination. J Mr. Daneff stated that from his knowledge of the problem their could be some criticism of the Administrator for the delay in making his decision. At 3:00 p.m. the delegation left and the Board began with their own "agenda. Operating accounts for Pinewood Court for August in the amount of $95,374.02 and for September in the amount of $98,098.79 and for Birchwood Terrace for August in the amount of $8,880.27 and for September in the amount of $27,140.46 were all passed for payment. Also approved when space is available were three Residents for Pinewood Court and four Resi- dents for Birchwood Terrace. Approval was giv -en to the termination of the Supervisor of Care Services with Separation Pay until Septem ~ber 10th, 1977. : : The next item of business took considerable time from the Board. It was the change in the per diem rate at Birchwood Terrace from $16.00 per day to $20.00 per day. The Board received PUBLISHED EVERY WEDNESDAY at the News Print- ing Plant, Post Office Building, Terrace Bay OFFICE HOURS - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MON. - FRI. MAILING ADDRESS - Box 579 PHONE 825-3747 DEADLINE - for all advertisements and news material i& NOON MONDAY of each week. SUBSCRIPTION RATES: = $5.00 per year (local) $6.00 per year (out-of-town) Second class mail Registration Number 0867 a letter from a Resident in Birchwood Terrace expressing the concern of full paying Residents in regard to this rate of increase. The Board has been granted from the beginning of Birch- wood Terrace to use a rate lower than the : actual per diem, as the Provincially owned building was only partially filled. The Minis -try in granting this approval in April stated that the rate would have to be reviewed in - October and April of next year. To'pg. 7 ... ER
