PAGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS JUNE 29, 1977 NORTH SHORE MATH CONTEST Dale Cooper, head of the Lake Superior High School mathematics department, inaugurat- ed a new contest in mathematics for students in grades 7 and 8, in the Lake Superior school area. Three hundred and thirty students enter -ed the contest - 158 from grade 8 and 172 from grade 7. It was a one hour contest, with forty ques- tions, and multiple choice of answers. The contest was conducted on May 25th with results just announced. ; Roger Wilson, of Lake Superior Public School Terrace Bay campus was the over-all winner and top in grade 8 in his school; Cosimo Fiorenza Holy Angels School, Schreiber came first in grade 7 and tenth in the over-all marks. The top students, scoring above the 90th percentile were awarded Certificates of Merit, and Lake Superior High School gave prizes to the two top students. The various schools also gave prizes to their top students. In the individual schools top students were: Holy Angels, Schreiber, Noreen Bourgeois - grade 8; Cosimo Fiorenza - grade 7. Mrs. Georgina Davis N.G. and Mrs. Helen Wallace P.D.D.P. as V.G. presided for the meeting. Mrs. Winnie Clemens and Mrs. Mavis Slater are presently at- tending the Rebekah Assembly Sessions in Tor- onto. : ] Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Wallace will Co-convene the luncheon on July 12th for the Annual Uni- ted Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Tour for 25 girls, 16 boys, 1 male tour leader, 2 female assistants and the bus driver. A $100.00 Bursary 'will be presented to a de-| serving Commercial Course Student at the Grad- uation Exercises of Lake Superior High School by Mrs. Winnie Clemens. Mrs. Norma Fummerton was reported to be a patient in P.A. General Hospital. A farewell gift was given to Mrs. Mildred Welsh now residing in Thunder Bay. Mrs. Stella Kuczma and Mrs. Iris Lidkea re- ported ill at home. Mrs. Jessie McCanna won the attendance prize. A pot luck supper was injoyed by the members prior to the meeting, as a wind-up before the summer recess. CHIMO CLUB: Thirteen members of the Chimo Club went by bus from Schreiber to Terrace Bay where they were joined by other members, residing there, to visit and have dinner with residents in Birchwood Terrace. . The afternoon was spent largely in visiting, with an unexpected pleasure when Ed Cavanaugh read a poem he'd composed on Memories - recol- lections of earlier days of family life and old friends. Paddy Bourguignon recited the famous "Cremation of Sam McGee", saying he'd memoriz- ed it long ago, when he was an operator, alone for long hours, somewhere 'out on the line'. A tour of the craft room was also enjoyed with several purchases made and orders placed for the attractive articles made by the resi- dents. . When the group entered the dining room they were reluctant to eat, not wanting to spoil the wonderful buffet, in colour and arrangement of the many tempting dishes, resembling a still life, arranged and cooked by Chef Leon Theri- ault. Agnes Bryson, on behalf of the residents, told the visitors how much they'd appreciated the visit, and Helen Wallace, Chimo Club pres- ident, thanked Mrs. Nancy Wilson and her staff for their warm welcome and Chef Theriault and his staff for their courteous service.
