PAGE 20 : TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY 26, 1977 WELBOURNE : The funeral of the late Harry Edward Wel- bourne, whose death occurred in hospital, fol- lowing a long illness, on May 11, was conduct- ed in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church on May 14, by the Rev..F.J. Meyer. Prior to the Church service the rosary was said in the King Funeral Home and the burial rite of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 was conducted. ~ The Legion provided a guard of honour and the pall bearers were J.P. Gagnon, Martin Ryan, Edward McAdam, William Madge, Arthur Parent and Pat Guina. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Miss Mary Bourke was the organist and during the service the choir sang several favourite hymns of the -deceased. Mr. Welbourne's immediate survivors are his wife, the former Albina Fraser; one daughter - Lorraine, Mrs. Thomas Leveque of Thunder Bay; three sons - Dr. Robert Welbourne of Thunder Bay, Lorne of Thunder Bay and Earl of Schreiber two brothers - Charles G. Welbourne of Burnaby, B.C. and Thomas Welbourne of Vancouver, B.C.; thirteen grandchildren. Mr. Welbourne, who was 81 years old, was born in Leeds, county of York, England. He came to Schreiber in 1913. He was a veteran of the First World War, having served from 1916 = 1918 with the Royal Canadian Engineer Corp. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, the Bro. of Locomotive Engineers #562 and the local Chimo Club. He was employed with the C.P.R. from the time he came to Schreiber until his retirement as a locomotive engineer in 1960. Mr. Welbourne's chief interest was his home and family and his wide range in reading kept him conversant with many subjects and inter- ests. Among those attending the funeral from out of town in addition to his family were: Charles G. Welbourne of Burnaby, B.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Max Shapiro, Jim Madge, Don Winters, Mal- colm Boon, all of Thunder Bay; and many friends from Rossport and Terrace Bay. CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE: Cont'd from pg. 19 and Mrs. Rita McGrath, who also attended gave additional reports. Sister Marvel gave a report on Chwrch Life and reminded members that rosary is being said every evening in May at 7 p.m. Mrs. McGrath suggested that racks of relig- ious literature be placed in the back of the Church. Father Meyer, expressed his appreciation to Father Moore, who had been his replacement during his vacation, and the members for their support. He then talked on Vocations to Reli- gious orders. The new slate of officers installed by Father Meyer were: Mrs. Lorette McParland - president; Mrs. Simonne Connelly - first vice president; Mrs. Gloria Mullins - second vice president; Mrs. Barbara O'Brien = third vice president; Mrs. Marjory Spacek - treasurer; . Mrs. Phyllis McParland - recording secretary; Mrs. Lurleen Blais --- corresponding secretary. The minutes of the past meeting and the treasurer's report were adopted as read 'by Mrs. McParland and Mrs. Spacek. ; Correspondence, read by Mrs. Blais, included letters - from Bishop O'Mara in appreciation of a donation made to the Canadian Catholic Organ- * ization for Development and Peace; from the Sisters of St. Josephj;a rerinder of the invita- tion from the United Church Women to attend a meeting on May 31st when a speaker will come from North Bay on behalf of the Bible Society and films will be shown. Mrs. McParland presided for the meeting and the next regular one will be June 12th. UNION CHURCH ANNUAL PENNY AUCTION The auxiliary to the Union Church, Rossport, held its annual Mother's Day Penny Auction with Mrs. Henderson convener. The hall was decorat- ed in blue and white streamers and the tables well loaded with prizes. Mrs. Henderson was on admission, Mrs. Mary Legault looked after the 3 book stall and the plant display. Calling numbers were: Mrs. Mary MacDonald, Mrs. Esther Seppala, Mrs. Beth MacAdam and Mrs. Margaret Spillane. Lunch convener was Miss Lorraine Seppala. The door prize of a chair afgan was won by 5 Mrs. E. Beaulieu of Terrace Bay and the draw prize of an afgan was.won by E. DelPino of Thunder Bay.
