A number of purchases were made for Birchwood Terrace which includes rail- ing and precast concrete steps for .the patio and, stainless steel equipment for the kitchen. The removal of the garage compound by tender was also accomplished. Room renovations is a continuous program. Mr. Vibert, Administrator of the Homes then summed up for the delegates some of the finan- cial items of operating the Home during the year. He also clarified the types of care being offered in each of the Homes and admis- sion procedures. The remainder of the meeting was turned intd a question or comment period. The meeting then adjourned and coffee and a light lunch was served in the Dining Room. AMETHYST HOUSE Amethyst House was built by the Canadian , Cancer Society and opened on June 19, 1972. Its' main purpose is to house out of town "mobile" cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at the Cancer Clinic in Port Arthur General Hospital (across the street). Accommodation in the lodge is free to the patients and their meals are provided in the cafeteria of the General Hospital. However, ' many patients do not want to go out for break- fast or for some of their meals - they perhaps do not "feel up to par" so they often have breakfast and in-between snacks in the "Snack Kitchen" in the Lodge and facilities and food are provided. J Amethyst house is equipped to house eight- een patients at the present time, with rooms for expansion. 'Thank you for your interest and work being carried on by the Canadian Cancer Society and the Cancer Foundation. ~The new Cancer Clinic for Northwestern Ontario is situated across the road from Amethyst House. The tentative date for the official opening is August 1977. Total cost - $2,000,000. Your new clinic will include: 2 cobalt units, 2 x-ray units, 4 treatment * rooms, 6 examining rooms, operating area, small auditorium, physics department, mould room, simulator room, expanded medical records department, expanded medical library.
