PAGE 12 TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH 16, 1977 FIGLIOMENI : The funeral of the late Dominic Figliomeni, of Schreiber, whose death, at the age of 72, occurred following a long illness on February 28, 1977, was conducted on March 2nd in Holy Angels' Roman Catholic Church. Father F.J. Meyer and Father Antoni officiated. The Rosary was said in Mr. Figliomeni's home. : Honourary bearers were: Frank Figliomeni, Vincenzo Figliomeni, Dominic Pedulla, Frank and John Agostino. Active bearers were: Cosimo Figliomeni, Cosimo'G. Figliomeni, Joseph Filgiomeni, 'Edward Macchi, Peter Speziale and Joseph S. -DePaulo. - Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. 'Mr. Figliomeni' s immediate survivors are his wife, the former Edith Agostino of Thunder Bay; three daughters - Teresa (Mrs. Andre Favuzzi), Angela (Mrs. Mario Borgo), both of Thunder Bay, and Rita, at home; four sons, Cosimo, Joseph, Mario and Nick of Schreiber; two sisters, Rosa (Mrs. Cosimo Speziale) of Schreiber and Maria. (Mrs. Frank Costa) Italy: two brothers, Vincenso sand Frank Figliomeni of Schreiber. Mr. Figliomeni came to Schreiber from Italy in 1927 and worked for many years in +the C.P.R, Shop, and later for the Kimberly- Clark-mill. He then set up in business for himself, first with a grocery store, later a restaurant, motel and garage (on Highway 17) called Filane's. Though his business enterprises proved suc- cessful, Mr. Figliomeni, will long be remem- tered not for that, but by the boys (now in their forties) who worked with him in the "shop". They were very young, and his pa- tience with their unending pranks will remain cherished, although few of them are now in Schreiber. : Among the many who attended the funeral from out of town were: Cosimo Crupi, Domenico Crupi and son Antonio Gerino, Tony Agostino, Cosimo Minella, Dominic Minella, Cosimo Pel- lagrino, Dominic Pedulla, Ginolomo Pedulla, V. Lombardo, Mrs. Teresa Agostino, Miss Maria Agostino, John Agostino, Nick Zavaglia, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Agostino, Ricky Agostino, Miss Charlotte Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mac¢chi, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Macchi and family, Mrs. Enni Slongo, Wendy and Karen Slongo, Mrs. C. DePaulo, Frank Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Agostino, Mr. and Mrs. Cosimo Figliomeni and family, Giovanni Speziale and Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Borgo - all from Thunder Bay. Tr RE ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION FOR MENTALLY RETARDED SLATED FOR MARCH 10 On February 10, 1977 the meeting of the Schreiber~Terrace Bay Association for the Men- tally Retarded was opened by President Art LeBlanc with the official prayer. Minutes of the November 23, 1976 meeting were read by the Secretary Lois Gilmour and the Treasurer's report was given by Peggy 3 Helmink who also stated our books are presently: - being audited. Correspondence was read by Rita Allen con- sisting of thank you notes from Cathy Allen and' Ann Helmink for Christmas gifts received and the Schreiber Public Library for pamphlets recently distributed. A letter was also received from the North Superior District Roman Catholic School Board thanking Mrs. Helmink for attend- 4 ing a class and answering the many questions &- put forth by the school children. It was moved | by Peggy Helmink and passed that we assist in the costs for the children from the Caroline + McMorland School to attend the bowling tour- nament in Sault Ste Marie and a donation of $50.00 . also be given towards their trip to E.9 Toronto in June. President Art LeBlanc gave his report on the Working Group and stated our submission for a : Program Developer had been turned back for re- .adjustments. - Mr. LeBlanc.is to find out more about what the job entails. It was also dis- cussed on how we would pay the Program Develo- per, whether through a school board or through Northern Affairs. ; Incorporation was discussed and costs felt to be too high at this time. Twenty books en- titled "The Prevention of Mental Retardation" by -Dr. J.B. Fatheringham .and Mary Morrison are to be purchased for distribution to the schools, | public libraries and doctors to further our on- going educational program. Our annual meeting, open to the public, is slated for March 10 in Terrace Bay in the Sep~ + | arate School. John Foulds of Adult Protective Services, Nipigon, has consented to be our guest speaker. Rita Allen was requested to write to all the associations for all interest- ed persons to attend and it is hoped a good crowd will attend. -- Peggy Helmink volunteered to be on the Nom- inating Committee. ' 1 ~ President Art LeBlanc brought forth the sub- ject of a Workshop and stated R. Lewindowski was making arrangements.
