TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH 9, 1977 BACK 25 YEARS AGO - MARCH 6, 1952 The Hawks and Canadiens, the top two teams in the Pee Wee Hockey loop are currently battling for the right to have their names carved on the "Silver Mug" , emplematic of Pee Wee Hockey supremacy in Terrace Bay. These two teams play- ed through thirty minutes of reguler time and one ten minute overtime period without either team scoring a goal in their first play off game last Friday. The Craig brothers - Doug for Hawks and Colin for Canuks played stellar hockey in the nets. Wood, Steen, They stopped the proverbial million. Lineup is as follows: The ALL STAR Goal - Doug Craig, Defense ~ Rowson, Forwards - Dejonghe, McDonald, Pletzer, Harvey, Wig, LeBlanc, Erickson, Selesse, Conway, Jeanneret. News and messages can prove to be unreliable. 20 YEARS AGO - MARCH 7, 1957 STORK CLUB: Congretulations this week go to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Commisso on the birth of a daughter, February 27th; to Mr. and Mrs. George Daniels on the birth of a daughter, March 1st; to Mr. and Mrs, Earl Glad on the birth of 'a daughter, March 1st; to Mr, and Mrs. Jack Todd on the birth of a daughter, March 5th. last Friday night Don Anderson's rink composed of Don Anderson - Skip, Alex Sinkins - Vice-skip, Bob Wellwin - Second, and Wayne Young - Lead earned themselves the right to be called Terrace Bay Men's Curling Club Champions by winning their last Scheduled game. 15 YEARS AGO - MARCH 8, 1962 Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber was the setting for the marriags, on March third, of Teresa Figlio- meni, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Dominic Figliomeni, and Andree Favuzzi, all of Schreiber. At 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Marvh 3rd, Rev. J.M. Cano of Schreiber joined in holy wedlock, Carol O'Brien, daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Leonard O'Brien and D'Arcy McDonald, of Manitouwadge. The wedding took place in St, Martin's Church, Terrace Bay and attendants were Dr. and Mrs. B.A. McDonald. STORK CLUB: Born to Mr. and Mrs, Connell of Rossport, a son on March lst. Pickerel - 65¢/1b, Smoked Herring - 59¢/1b. 10 YEARS AGO = MARCH 9,1967 A Terrace Bey ladies rink of Peggy Wellings, Louise Gavin, Dene Clancy and Aggie Sinkins tock part in e Man- = itouwadge Bonspisl capturing second place in the first event and also the prize for the largest out of town end. In 1924 he went to the Bridge and Building Department and in 1929 to the car barns where he completed his service. On behalf of his fellow workers Gerry Fisher, president of the car men, presented Bob Gray with a fishing jacket and a cheque to honour his retirement. 5 YEARS AGO - MARCH 9, 1972 Prizes won in the Min McCuaig open bonspiel wers excellent and in addition were draw prizes won by Billie Weaver, Brenda Harper, Kay and George Riley, who also won the Chinese dinner. Ivan Cocks, Dixie Winters, Don Winters, and Judy Cocks, the rink from Thunder Bay were awarded the prize for coming the most miles to attend. The first event was won by Barry Herper, Weaver, Knut Schmiechen, and Brenda Harper. At the close of the Driver Education course recently, two class parties were held, one in Terrace and one in Schreibsf = to honour the instructor, Mr. W. Dukes. 1 YEAR AGO - MARCH 10, 1976 On Sunday evening March 7, 1976 when e& most delicious dinner was enjoyed at the Imperial Restaurant,members of the Terrace Bay Chambor of Commerce honoured this year's par- ents of the New Years Baby, Mr, and Mrs. Gerald Waverick. The MoCausland Hospital was notified recently by the Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. W. Allan Backley, that finan- cial constraints were to be applied to hospitals including the McCausland Hospital and that these would take the form of Staff reduction at this hospital. A letter was received from the Minister of Education , the Honourable Thomas L. Wells, giving official approval for the name. of the North of Superior District R.C.S.S.
