MARCH 9, 1977 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 3 HERITAGE DAY ASSEMBLY AT ST. MARTIN St. Martin students thought of Heritage Day as a time for assessing what it means to be a Canadian by examining Canada's past and present, and looking to its future. A var- iety of projects were undertaken throughout the school to achieve this overview. The culmination of these efforts was the Heritage Day Assembly 1977 02 22. The programme con- sisted of a geographical tour of Canada pre- sented by Mrs. Rajotte's grade 4 & 5 class, a visit to Ottawa, a result of research by Mrs. Falzetta's grade 2 & 3 and Canadian Collage, a medley of fifteen Canadian songs performed by the school choir showing the breadth and depth of our Canadian culture. Posters created by grade 4 & 5 depicting Can- adian life were on display in the gym. Many thanks to the parents who give special support to these assemblies by their atten- dance. The programme was repeated for the Lake Superior Public School, Terrace Bay Campus, on Thursday 1977 02 24. BROOMBALL LEAGUE INTO PLAYOFFS The regular broomball schedule ended Feb. 3rd. The Mayfair Hotel team is top in the league standings with Frankel/Marshall close behind. Peterson Electric and KCC (last year's champion team) have been steadily catching up to the leaders. TIt.looks like we'll have some exciting playoff action. The playoffs began Monday, February 21st with the Mayfair Hotel playing KCC in, the regular broomball time slot. KCC were last - year's winners of the Bart Cebrario Trophy for the League Championship. The final point computation for individual players has been done. : Top scorers in the ¥éague during 'regular season play were: 1 - Christan Theriault of Frankel Marshall with 13 points. 2 - Bruno Theriault of Frankel Marshall with 11 points. 3 - Alf Poppin of Prankel Marshall with 9 points. 4 - Paul Tremblay and Giles Belisle of the Mayfair Hotel team with 6 points each. 5 - Dave Foley (Frankel) and T. Desaulniers (KCC) with 5 points each. Wednesday, March 2nd Frankel met with Peterson Electric at 9:00 and at 10:15 . Mayfair Hotel played KCC. All games are played in the Terrace Bay Arena. Spectators are welcome. 'on Friday, February 25th, 1977 with six Board ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR AUTHORIZED The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Home for the Aged was held at Pinewood Court members in attendance. The past Chairman and present Board member, Mr. Fred Harness, was away on holidays. Operating costs for the month of January were passé€d for payment for both Homes. Pine -wood Court in the amount of $94,790.71 and Birchwood Terrace in the amount of $11,123.84. The final Budget for 1977 was approved and the Sixteen Municipalities are being asked to raise $195,784.91 on a percentage basis as established by the Equalized Assessment. In the Budget the Board has made provision for paving the driveways and a whirlpool and sauna at Pinewood Court. Staff in both Homes were given a six per --- cent rate increase subject to final agreement and Anti-Inflation Board approval. The Admin- istrator was authorized to engage an Assistant subject to Ministry approval. The main tasks of the Assistant will be to assist with resi- dent documentation, subsidy claims, staff wage and salary agreements, statisticals and Anti-Inflation reports. Cont'd Pg. 5.4.
