PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH :2, 1977 TERRACE BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT During the week of February 21st to 28th, the Terrace Bay Police Department answered forty-four occurrances. Two persons have been charged with impaired driving. Four charges have been laid under thd the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act. During the week, the department investigat- ed five traffic accidents. One of these in- volved a car and a snowmachine. There was one personal injury accident. The person was treated at McCausland Hospital for minor in- juries. - Two acts of wilful damage which occurred at the High School are currently under in- vestigation. As the result of an incident at the trailer park, two persons are facing charges. The investigation is still continuing. One person has been charged with Break, Enter and Theft from one of the local garages. Police responded to several domestic dis- putes during the past week. Officers attended a fire at the Kimberly-. Clark garage; damage was minor. A reminder that the snow removal crews have been experiencing difficulty in clearing some streets because of parked vehicles. To enable the streets to be cleared efficiently, please don't leave vehicles parked overnight on the streets. Vehicles left will be subject to tow away at the owners risk and expenses. RECREATION DEPT. 7 WEEKLY REPORT ART SEMINAR POSTPONED TO THIS SATURDAY, MARCH STH: The Art Seminar which was advertised in last week's News has been re-scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 5th, due to incle- ment weather conditions experienced on Februa- ry 26th. If there is anyone in Terrace Bay who would be interested in attending the Art Seminar, please contact the Recreation Office. NORTH SHORE PLAYOFF HOCKEY: At the time of this write-up, the Recrea- tion Office had received no information.on the particulars of the semi-final North Shore Minor Hockey playoffs. WINTER CARNIVAL VARIETY NIGHT CANCELLED: Due to conflict in timing of Winter Carnival activities, the Variety Night has been regret- fully cancelled. WINTER CARNIVAL BROCHURES TO GO ON SALE MONDAY, MARCH 7TH: This year for the first time, the Winter Carnival brochure will be going on sale at $1.00 per copy. Refer to page 15 for détails, The format of the brochure has been changed in that all brochures will be numbered and the purchaser will 'automatically be eligible for a number of draws that will be held through- out the 4-day Carnival. For example, the first draw will be held at the opening cere- monies on Thursday night at the arena, March 10th. It is hoped that at least 5 draws will be made throughout the Carnival days. 3 In addition to the draws, the brochure is ,the only reference for specific details re- garding the various activities (i.e., date, - time and place of events). As in past years, businesses which have supported the Carnival will be acknowledged in the form of full page, | % page and 1/8 pg. ads. The Carnival brochures will be available for purchase from the Recreation Office (dur- | 'ing office hours) starting Monday, March 7th through to Friday, March llth. They will also be available for sale at the Terrace Bay arena during the opening night of the Carnival, Thursday, March 10th. In order to become tuned in to all of the 5 Carnival activities and also make yourself ¥ eligible fqQr draws, be sure to purchase your brochure as early as possible as there is a limited supply. - WINTER CARNIVAL ~- MARCH 10th - 13th: The 1977 Terrace Bay Winter Carnival is fast approaching! ; Have you purchased your Carnival Button yet? If you're looking for fun and entertainment for the whole family, be sure to get involved in the various activities planned for your pleasure. Some of the events scheduled for the weekend include dances, a parade of floats, a torchlight parade, a snow sculpture contest and a children costume party and skating races at the arena. Klondike morning should be a challenge for all "Hearty Northerners" with a variety of activities such as axe- throwing, tea boiling and chair carving contests, as well as snowshoe and cross-country ski races. As a wind-up to the Carnival on Sunday evening, the Ski Club will have skiing races, a free-style skiing display and torchlight skiing for all. : The success fo the Carnival depends on participation.
