The Board agreed with Dr. Finnegan's proposal for establishing a Scoliosis screening program in this school system. = : : A sum of $6,000.00 has been approved by the Ministry of Education under a community school development grant. The title of the program which it is hoped will be run inside this school division, is "Community Participaction and Co-ordination". The purpose is to try and co-ordinate the various services which at pre- sent exist in the various municipalities and to identify new services which may be needed. It is hoped too that the proposed program will bring the schools and the communities into a closer working relationship, in order to fur- ther the development of quality education. LEGION SWEETHEART FUNSPIEL The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223 Ter- race Bay held it's annual curling day. This year it was a "Sweetheart Funspiel" held on Saturday, .February 19, 1977. The rinks were chosen at random from the lists, and each team played four games. : Some real good curling was seen. No one was expected to produce any startling results, so the amateurs enjoyed the day beside some ex -cellent curlers. The top winners of the Funspiel were: Champions = Ann Latour, Skip; Joe Szpak, Third; Elizabeth McLeod, Second; Frank Roen, Lead. 2nd Place - Marg Liebrock, Skip; Paul Rochon, Third; Dorothy Dakin, Second; Nick Chopty, Lead. 3rd Place - Howie Cooke, Skip; Nancy Dupas, Third; Gary MacRae, Second, Evelyn Fal- zetta, Lead. A Social Hour followed at the Legion Hall and a pot-luck supper was attended by 70 people. A big variety of dishes appeared and every nationality producing food fit enough to tempt a gourmets palate. Later in the evening a dance was held with a selection of fun dances and prizes being dis tributed. The dancing was to the talented group of local musicians: Peter Vanderkam and his band. Curling prizes were presented by David Pep- linskie and Pam Jones, Sports for the Branch and Auxiliary. DR. KEITH WILKES GUEST SPEAKER In January the Terrace Bay Girl Guides in- vited Dr. Keith Wilkes to be their guest speak -er. and the relationship to smoking on our general health. and informative and enjoyed a group. discussion at the close of the evening. February is a busy month for the Guiding movement, with the Guide and Brownie banquet, Church Parade and Thinking Day. This year the Guides held a Mini Bakesale 3 within their group. Each girl brought cake, cookies or squares and sold it to raise money for their Thinking Day pennies. Last week, Jeannie Tychoniak and Anita Stuart from "Jeannie's Place" were the guests. Two of the very latest hairstyles were done on Paulette Theriault and Maureen Caldwell. During the demonstration the ladies answered _numerous questions and also talked on the re- quirements for healthy hair and personal groom -ing habits to make a more beautiful you. The evening was a great success for these. young modern misses of Terrace Bay. As a service project to the Community the Girl Guides canvassed the town selling Carni- val Buttons last week. The Guide Leaders extend their thanks to these people who gave their time to visit and talk with the Guides. The girls found the talk' interesting =: eg He talked on smoking and of our lifestyle FE CHURCH NEWS; The Ladies Auxiliary to the Community Church held a successful membership tea in the Church * Hall in February. Tables and the hall were gaily decorated in - red and white and a delicious selection of squares were served. Convener Linda Hutchinson welcomed everyone at the door, and distributed Bazaar Bags to the ladies who required one. 'It seems that the Bazaar Bags are a real converstion item to the ladies in the commun- ity, for many lovely craft and extra ordinary ideas were used to fill them for the last Bazaar. BRIDAL SHOWER An open Bridal Shower will be held in honour of Bonnie McEwen at 8:00 o'clock p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 1977 in the Community Church basement. Everyone welcome. a. i
