pd FEBRUARY 2, 1977 TERRACE BAY NEWS "PAGE 9 ROBERT RILEY: Funeral services for the late Robert C. Riley, aged 76, who passed away in his home on January 20, 1977, were held on January 24, in the King Funeral Home in Schreiber, con- ducted by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109 with prayers said by Rev. F.J. Meyer, Legion Padre. The Legion formed a guard of honour and the pall bearers were George Riley, Dan Riley, Dale Riley, 'Shane Riley, Ted Riley and Jim Duggan, all nephews of the deceased. The" committal prayers at the graveside were led by Father Meyer. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Riley's immediate survivors are his second wife, Irene, daughters Audrey, Mrs. K.A.J. Hansen of Thunder Bay, Shirley, Mrs. G.A. Adams of Drumheller, Alta.; Sons James, Roger and Barry, all of Vancouver; step- daughter Teresa, Mrs. Finholm of Thunder Bay;- stepson Don Geary of Thompson, Manitoba; sisters Victoria, Mrs. Robert Winters and Phyllis, Mrs. Wallace Greenshield both of Schreiber; brothers George of Mount Forrest, Herbert of White River and Clifford, Birch- wood Home, Terrace Bay and many nieces, nep- hews and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers Willy, Fred and Charlie; daughter Mrs. Gilbert Gerow; sister Mrs. Jack Corbett and first wife, Freda. Mr. Riley (Robbie) to his many friends in the area, was born and raised in Schreiber, where he worked on the railway, sold insur- ance, trapped and prospected. He was a member of the local Legion, Br.;: 109, and served in the first world war in France. During the second world war_he served as a veterans' guard. Among those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. D. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Finholm, Thunder Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Riley, White River and Gilbert Gerow of Rossport. RUBY REBEKAH LODGE : Ruby Lodge 279 members held their Officers Penny Auction on Friday. Decor prize was won by Margaret Spillane. Grocery Hamper was won 'by Cathie Whitton and the W.C.W. Home made quilt draw was won by Mrs. Gladys Hamilton. A Penny Auction with Pot luck lunch will be held following the next meeting on Februa- ry 8th. I do realize that it's not whether you win or lose but how you play the game. However, must our own school teams always lose, though --= not through inferior playing techniques but directly due to inadequate practice. We have a most enthusiastic school and just as enthusiastic teachers who willingly give of their time. I know how frustrating it is for' students and teachers, having badminton bird- ies stuck in the too low lights, or attempting volley ball in a spare room not really wide enough for the nets. ; Our modern education system boasts equal opportunity for all students. Holy Angels' students are not given equal opportunity. In Schreiber, Holy Angels has the largest enrolment of the three schools, and the poorest education facilities. eg In the interest of our youth, I would like this matter investigated. CHARLIE AND ELEANOR BOON CELEBRATE . 45TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY 'Charlie and Eleanor Boon of Schreiber were honoured Sunday afternoon with a surprise dinner in their home to mark the occasion of their 45th Wedding Anniversary. A beautiful floral centerpiece and a colour T.V. were presented to them by their children. The special cake was made and decorated by a friend and neighbour, Freda Duggan. Home for the occasion were daughters Lois Fenlon with Dawn and Chrissie from Thunder Bay; Gerry Gauthier, husband John, Greg Lynn and Brad from Foleyet; Peggy Regis, husband Al with Ralph, Anne, Darlene, Patti and Kevin; Linda Roy from Terrace Bay; Marlene Kostecki, husband Jim with Cindy and Randy, Schreiber; sons, Gus of Thunder Bay; Norman, wife Lynn, with Stephen, Stacey and Chuckie of Schreiber.
