At its regular meeting in April, the Board} suspended the sale of its houses for, the time being. This resolution has now been rescinded. In order that both the spirit and the let- ter of the contracts signed with the Board's employees might be understood and, therefore, misunderstandings avoided, it was decided that a Workshop should be held to discuss such contracts under the Chairmanship of Trustee Ungar, Chairman of the Salary Committee, along with members of the Salary Committee, the Principals of the Division, the Superintendent of Business & Finance and the Director of Ed- ucation. A letter from a local taxpayer expressing some concerns and asking some questions about the Board's Night School Program was read and answers given as follows: a) All classes, in both Day and Night School Programs, are sub- sidized by the taxpayers of Ontario. b) There is not any restriction placed on the type of course offered. If the community needs a course and a reasonable number support the course and provided an instructor is available and competent, then the course can be offered. This is the essence of Community Education. c) Programs in each area of the School Divi- sion are financially self-supporting. The Board was given information on requests for transportation for students from residenc- es in Jack fish, Terrace Heights and Port Cold- well areas. It was pointed out that it would cost. ap- proximately $11,810.00 to transport two pupils daily from Jackfish to Terrace Bay and return. The request for transportation of Kinder- garten students from Port Coldwell to Marathon 'and return was denied. The Terrace Heights' request will be review -ed again at the October Board meeting. S The resignation of Mrs. K. Noble, Secretary at Manitouwadge High School, was accepted with regret, effective September 30, 1976. Mr. Giovanni Bottacin's appointment was ap- proved, at salary according to" schedule, ef- fective June 15, 1976. Mr. Bottacin replaces Mr. Matt Shwaluk who retired earlier this year. Mrs. Helen Goodwin's appointment as half time Language Arts teacher at Manitouwadge Public School, at salary according to schedule, 'was approved, effective October 1,°1976.
