PAGE 12 TERRACE BAY NEWS cH MARCH 17, 1976 IMPROVEMENTS ON HIGHWAY 17 Transportation and Communications Minister James Snow announced that tenders have been called for resurfacing on Highway 17 from the CPR overhead east to Schreiber easterly to Jackfish Lake for 17.2 miles including grading drainage, granular base and hot mix paving at various locations from Jackfish Lake easterly to Little Pic River Bridge and from the CPR overhead in Schreiber westerly to Gravel River Bridge. LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING First vice president, Skip Davis presided over the February general meeting of the Leg- ion Ladies Auxiliary in the absence of presi- dent, Lorraine Weaver. A request for transfer was read and approv- ed for Edith Ibey who is transferring to Br. 12 in Kenora. Georgina Davis and Rena Ross were voted ac- credited delegates to the District Convention in Kakabeka Falls with Chris Dunham as alter- nate delegate. Georgina Davis thanked all who helped make the Sweetheart Bonspiel a success and Venita McKenna thanked all who donated food and work- ed in the kitchen at the bonspiel supper. The Auxiliary Birthday Party will be on May 29th. Ida Krause volunteered to make the birthday cake. Maureen Carter volunteered to keep the cal- "ling list for the month of March for the "Open Evenings" Each member was asked to bring a tea towel to the April meeting to replenish the kitchen supplies. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The theme for the World Day of Prayer held on Friday, March 5 was "Education - For All of Life" prepared by the Christian Women of Latin America. St. Andrews United Church was the host Church this year with representation from Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church and St. John's Anglican Church. Those taking part were 'Miss Gwen Hadley, Mesdames Kay Stefurak, Hazel Bailey, Liz Pres- cott, Helen Stokes, Eirene Harness, Colleen Glad, Winnie Clemens, Margaret Spillane, Irene Moorey, Marguerite Gerow, Rena Ross, Beth Mac- adam, Myrtle Gordon, Flora Bryson and Florence Fischer. Dorothy Lengyel was organist and Eva Gordon soloist. Following the service a film tape and re- cording - "The Miracle of the Least Coin" was shown and tea served in the lower hall. Offerings from this service will be sent to the Inter-Church Council of Canada in Toronto. In spite of the stormy weather there was a good turn out. NEW MINISTER ARRIVES IN APRIL The United Church Women of Schreiber held their March meeting conducted by Mrs. Beth Macadam who also took charge of the Devotion- al. Mrs. Winnie Clemens read the Scripture lesson and the Financial Statement was read by Miss Gwen Hadley. 4 Mrs. Macadam reported on the enjoyable vis- it to Birchwood Terrace when the members spent a lively hour or two teaching the residents to play penny auction. Prizes consisted of bak- ing, knitted articles, etc. which were donat- ed by members. A letter was received from Mrs. Dorothy Tweedley, Supply Convenor in Cambrian Presby- tery, listing the supplies donated by various United Church Women's groups in Thunder Bay District as well as other welfare projects and funds assisted by Cambrian Presbytery. Thanks were extended to all who participated in the supply program. ; Mrs. Margaret Spillane was elected Supply i Convenor for the Schreiber U.C.W. W 'Several cards of thanks and a letter of ap- preciation from Birchwood Terrace were acknow- ledged. : Mrs. Margaret Smith read a lengthy list of sick and bereaved to whom cards were sent. 2 i Ty de EE vidgaaien eae da STEER Tu Ly Flowers were sent to two ailing members. Mrs. Norma Fummerton was reported ill in McKellar Hospital. The group was invited to a C.W.L. meeting in the Parish centre on March 14th, when a film sponsored by the Cancer Society will be shown. Mrs. Spillane spoke briefly on the Official Board meeting. The new Minister will arrive in April and will take charge of the morning -service on Sunday, April llth. After the meeting a film under the auspices of the Fellowship of the Least Coin was shown by Gwen Hadley and Mrs. Macadam. Members bartered at the Bring and Buy table followed by lunch served by Mrs. Macadam and Mrs. Spillane. At the next meeting on April 7th there will be a guest speaker and slides.
