In addition to his many good qualities Pont has another distinction. No one calls, or re- fers to him except as Pont, and most people have difficulty in recalling his real name of George. The nickname beginning from a long forgotten reason when he started school. Pont began working in a local grocery store doubling as clerk and delivery boy, then went on the railroad in 1926 again serving in dif- ferent departments until 1940 when he formal- ly signed on as a trainman. His first trip, he recalls, was made with conductor Anson Mc- Cuaig and engineer Russell Cameron. With him as conductor, his last trip was made with Pete Ukrainec, Rick Doyle and Gorddén Nesbitt. Pont, although his last trip was on the "east end" has spent the last nine years on the west end in freight service. He has also worked on the passenger service and for three years was trainmaster.
