ARE YOU AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING? 1. 2. Teachers of Lake Superior High School do not have a salary contract for the present school year. » Teachers in the Lake Superior Board jurisdiction are among the lowest paid in the province. Salary negotiations between the teachers and the Lake Superior Board of Education have collapsed. Teachers have asked that their dispute be put to arbitration and the Board has refused their request. Half of the staff of Lake Superior High School left last year (all were exper=~ ienced teachers) The key negotiator for the Board is also the Director of Education (unprecedented in Ontario) and is leaving this Board. Trustees of the Board last year gave themselves a 100% increase in their 'gonthly gratuity (now $200. - Maximum allowed by province) The Board refused to negotiate with the teachers over the summer months knowing their old salary contract would expire August 31st. There has been a continual decrease in Teacher - Board resations with the result- ing strain being felt by the teachers. The only alternative left to the teachers is to strike.
