OCTOBER 8, 1975 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 3 HOMES FOR THE AGED BOARD MEETING ---- nf {So 1% The regular meeting of the Board of Manag- ement of the District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged was held at Pinewood Court on Friday, September 26, 1975 with five Board Members in attendance. Operating aceounts totalling $102, 000.00 was passed for payment for Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terrace. The Buset Brothers Contr- actors Limited received Progress Billing #1 on the addition to: the dining room at Pinewood Court, totalling $9,000.00. The addition is presently held up because of material delay. Eight residents were approved for admission, four to Pinewood and four to Birchwood, when space is available. The Board also approved a membership in the Volunteer Bureau at a cost of $25.00. They felt it was important because this is where help is obtained for work with Senior Citizens. Mr. William Okada, Maintenance Supervisor, was authorized to attend an Electrical and Maintenance Conference in Ottawa on October 36th to.the 18th, 1975. The Board reviewed a tentative submission which will be made to the District Health Council. - The submission which will be made outlines the Board's role, it! s policies, the population it serves and the services it now operates - Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terr- ace, the amount of Extended Care beds that are available and the future plans of the Board, such as Community Outreach and new Residenti- al Care Homes. The Board Members were ask- ed to assist with the final submission that will be made prior to October 31st to the Dis- trict Health Council. The Board dealt with a letter from the Min- istry of Transportation and Communications which stated that after reviewing the sign si- tuated at Birchwood Terrace, the present cros- sing is signed as a school crossing and the pavement is marked, and that Senior Citizens signing would oversign that particular area. Board Members tended to agree that oversign- ing would not be good. However, they did feel that something was needed because of the many near accidents and the fact that many Seniors crossing have restricted vision and hearing. Therefore, they requested the Ad- ministrator to suggest to the Regional Traf- fic Ehgineer to investigate the possibilit- ies of installing an amber light at the cros- sing. Reports were submitted by staff and Board Members who attended the Convention of the Ho- mes for the Aged Association.
