VOL. I7 NO. 47 NOVEMBER 28, 1974 20¢ PER COPY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING 'The Lake Superior Board of Education meeting was held on Saturday, November 16th at the Mar- athon High School. The minutes of Meeting No. 11/74 were dec- lared adopted. The contract for the addition to the Mara- thon Public School, Stevens Avenue Campus, was awarded to Boggs Construction Limited, of Thun- der Bay, at a price of $648,788.00. ~The disbursements for the month of October, 1974, totalled $768,362.73. The Business Administrator was authorized to close out the Imprest Bank Account to the General Account at the Bank of Montreal, Sch- reiber, Ontario, which was established May 12, 1969, under Resolution No. 69-88. Miss Gail Conrad, of the Manitouwadge Public] School, was nominated for teaching duties in Europe with the Department of National Defence, for a two year period commencing with the sch- ool year 1975-76. M. Reid, Teacherage Sales Committee Chair- man for Schreiber-Terrace Bay, advised that J.J. Bishop withdrew the request to purchase 247 Kenogami Road, Terrace Bay. : The Board approved the Insignia and Motto design as presented for School Board use. The Director provided brief details on pro- posed legislation and regulations for Early School Leaving of 14 and 15 year-olds. A report from Graham, Bacon and Welter ing- icated the laminated beam structures in Mani- touwadge Public School to be completely safe. Trustee A. Allen, bid farewell to the Board and expressed his appreciation for past assoc- iations and wished to the Board continued suc- cess. continued page 2 HOSPITAL FUND OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED The Board of Governors of the McCausland Hospital has officially launched the building fund for the proposed new hospital. To date the sum of $1770 has been realized through per: sonal donations as well as those from organiz- ations. Our latest donation was $1000 from the Auxiliary to the McCausland Hospital. We wish to thank the Auxiliary for the most rec- ent, of many, donations of money and service, and we hope that this will motivate other com- munity organizations to do likewise. Again, we wish to remind everyone that receipts will be issued for income tax purposes. The Finance Committee of the hospital is presently selling tickets on an Arctic Cat, with second and third prizes of $75 and $50, respectively. The draw will be held on Decem- ber 17th. If you have not yet purchased your ticket, please contact Bruce Tilbury in Schre- iber. On November 28th, the C.W.L. of Terrace Bay will be holding a bingo with profits going to the new building fund. continued page 2 .....
