OCTOBER: 30, 1974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 7 PUBLIC COMMENT INVITED ON LAND USE PLANNING Extensive public participation in the devel -opment 'of plans for public use of lands in Northwestern Ontario were invited October 4th, by Natural Resources Minister Leo Bernier. Mr. Bernier issued the invitation at a meeting of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association in Kenora where he released a re- port entitled "Background Information and Approach to Policy: Northwestern Ontario Reg- ion." 'It is the first report to be published dealing with the Ministry of Natural Resources Strategic Land Use Plan, a project designed to co-ordinate the land using programs of the Ministry within the overall framework of the Design for Development Program. The Ministry has been collecting and anal- ysing information on the people and resources of Northwestern Ontario for the past two years This report is a summary of these findings, and some proposed policies for the future. "It is important to emphasize that this is not a planiat this stage," Mr. Bernier said. "The policies contained in the report are pro- posed for discussion by other government min- istries, municipal officials, interested groups and the public in general." Ministry staff will now bé implementing an extensive public participation program to allow all interested individuals and groups to comment on the contents of the report, the minister said. Copies of the report will be available within a few days from all district and region- al offices of the Ministry of Natural Resour-. ces in Northwestern Ontario, as well as from Northern Affairs offices and the Ministry's Land Use Co-ordination Branch in Toronto. Usher L. West. The Spitfires took 7 points and first place followed by the Irish Regiment with 5 points. The Corvettes were next with 4 points and the Cameron Highlanders took 2 points.
