JULY 24, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 7 TRAVELLING ART WORKSHOPS FOR ONTARIO: People of all ages across the province will be able to participate in a travelling art workshop again this summer. "Art Trek" is a group of travelling artists. encouraging people to discover a creative po- tential in themselves that they may not have been aware of; encouraging working artists to discover a new medium or technique; encourag- ing everyone to see art as part of their every -day life. The artists travel in teams of two in six different areas of the province under the joint sponsorship of the Ministry of Community and Social Services and Visual Arts Ontario as part of the "Experience '74" program. They travel in vans full of equipment and art supplies offering unstructured workshops free of charge in painting, printing, silkscreening | sculpture, batik, macrame and other media. Michael D'Avirro and Irv Osterer, both from the Ontario College of Art will be touring Northwestern Ontario visiting such communities as Rainy River, Kenora and Terrace Bay. Mich- ael, who was an evening instructor at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute this winter in Toronto, looks forward to Art Trek as a new teaching ex- perience. Irv has won two scholarships during his first two years at Ontario College of Art and has taught in a variety of formats and settings. During the past year Irv has been taking a full academic load in graphis and graphic design in conjunction with his own silkscreening work. The teams are on the road from July I until Labour Day weekend. The workshops will last from two to four days and will occur at a var- iety of hours to meet the needs of the widest possible range of people in more than 80 com- munities. The Art Trek program is entering its fourth year. The program co-ordinators are sure that if its impact matches the enthusiasm of the artists it can't help but be an even more succ -essful summer than last year.
