All last years teams, Mayfair, Gulf and Legion have been com- pletely revamped while some twenty rookies wi- 11 debut. Defending champions Gulf will look to the pitching of Stan Spadoni and Gordon Ross and the veteran bats of Fred McColeman, Charlie Simmer, Jody Davis, Paul Gauthier and Mike Miller. Last years hardship case, Legion, looks to be really heavy with the bats like Brian Webb, Kim Gellert, Albert Courteman -che, Terry Black, Bob Fummerton, Marvin Osmar Scott Walterhouse and Doug Moore. Scoring 25 runs in their two exhibition games promises good times for Mayfair and peo- ple like Norm Boon, Ted Winters, Barry Harper, Bob Smilsky, George Dashkewytch and Steve Ross. SCHREIBER RECREATION NEWS TENNIS CLUB FORMING: Our new tennis net has arrived, but before we put it up, we need a volunteer from the court area who will take the net down every evening and keep it in his/her home. There is a small sum available to pay a person for this, and this job will probably only last until school is out in June. If you are over I2 yrs. 0ld and are interested in the job, please call 824-2325 in the morning; 825-380I in the even- ing. There will be a meeting at the Tennis Court Saturday, June 8 at I0:00 a.m. for any- one who is interested in forming a tennis club. Perhaps court time could be better scheduled if there were some organization. Also, Mr. Al Rowntree has volunteered to help with tennis lessons so if you would like to take them, be at the court Saturday morning to register. ART TREK: Art Trek is coming to Schreiber August 9th and I0th. Further publicity and information will be available later in the summer. ART SHOW: The Schreiber Art Club is holding an Art Show this weekend at the Schreiber Campus, Lake Superior High School, Saturday 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Coffee and cakes will be served. Some paintings will be for sale and everyone is welcome to come and see what the artists of Terrace Bay and Schreiber have created this winter. SUMMER PROGRAMMES: There is still no definite word from the Sports and Recreation Bureau about our youth- in-Action grant, but we will be coming into the schools with registration forms and in- formation about programmes on June I0 and II. "His & HER' SPORTS FUN DAYS This past weekend the Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223, tried a new venture, a Sports Interchange between Branch and Auxiliary members which proved an overwhelming success. To start the Fun-Days a "His & Her" Bowling night was held May 3Ist with many non-bowlers having a great time alongside the regular bowlers. Lots of excitement prevailed as the scores were tallied at the end of 3 games and a rousing hand of applause was given to win- ners, Aldea Churney and Jim St.Louis. Run- ners-up were Bea St.Louis and Sam Ballentine. A prize for the best effort by two non bowl- ers who competed cheerfully went to Linda Ballentine and Dick Rattray, presented by Sam Ballentine. The Bowling prizes were pre- sented at the Legion Hall and lunch was ser- " ved by Dorothy Ballentine and Marg Duriez. Saturday, June Ist dawned a beautiful day with everyone in high spirits and looking forward to a challenging and interesting time with 3 Sports available to enter if one de- sired. Cribbage was the first contest with the ladies playing alongside the men with a friendly comradery, but eventually after many events, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, and after an excellent final game, Bill Kujbida announced the winners. A Event - Marg Duriez; runner-up - George Churney. B Event - Beth Neely; runner-up - Pam Jones. Following this, Tony Cvitkovich got the Shuffleboard under- way and some very skillful manoeuvers were seen as the contest continued throughout the afternoon. It seemed that the men were more exact with their Shuffleboard shots than the ladies, but a grand effort was seen in the B event. A event winners =~ Nick Chopty; runner- up = Tony Cvitkovich.
