CURLING CLUB HONOURS PEGGY WELLINGS The Annual Curling Club banquet was held in the Mrose Hall, Terrace Bay, on Saturday, May 18th. Bob Roberts was Master of Ceremonies. Mrs. Jeannine Desrosiers said Grace. Bob Roberts introduced the head table guests, and the past year's executive. Special tribute was paid to Vice-President Tony Cvitkovich and Jack Chapman for the success of the past year. Directors for the 74-75 Curling Club season were introduced. They were: John McEwen, Dick Baron, Don Davey, Archie Heinrich, Paul Mala- shewski, Cam Burgess, Jimmy Corrigan, Treasurer Ed Kennedy, Bob Hopper, Henry Hermes, Len Crock- ford and Past President Bob Roberts. President of the Ladies Curling Club intro- duced the executive for the ladies club for 74-75 - President - Shirley Caron; Ist Vice - Elaine Zwir; 2nd Vice - Shirley Richards; Secre- tary - Nancy Dupas; Treasurer - Norma Crockford; with Peggy Wellings, Wanda Aulenbach, Joan Wea- ver, Connie Cvitkovich, and Jeannette Gunter. A very special presentation took place when 'ary Hale, of the Terrace Bay Ladies Curling ub called upon Peggy Wellings, to accept a Life Membership in the club. Peggy is a veter- ar curler in Terrace Bay, having started in the old rink in the South Camp in I947. Peggy was president of the club for two years, won the first annual bonspiel in I954, Zone champion in I955, posted an 8-ender in I956; she was Zone champion for II years, win- ner of the N.W.0.L.C. representative for 5 years and runner-up in the Ontario finals for 5 years. She and her rink held the Club cham -pionship for I0 years. She won many honours for herself and the T.B.L.C.C., and the high- light of her career was when she was chosen as one of two in all of Ontario to represent Canada in Scotland in I97I. Peggy is a charter member of the T.B.L.C.C. and will be missed when she moves to B.C. where she plans to make her home. Peg was given a standing ovation as she accepted the framed life membership from President Ollie Chapman and Mary Hale. The first trophy to be given for Men's Cur- ling was the Carling's trophy, won by Jack ; Chapman, Howie Cooke, T. Desaulniers and Don | Thompson. Winners of the Club Championship for the third time in a row for the Costa's trophy was the rink of Bob Roberts, Ed Kennedy, Archie Heinrich and Jimmy Corrigan. : The Hiram Walker trophy, presented by Sid Duthie, was won by John McEwen, Bob Hopper, Gerry Downey, Gerrie Dickson and Joe Commisso. The Mixed League championship went to Harry Gusul, Julie and Dick Rattray and Peggy Well- ings. They won the Canadian Imperial Bank of Canada trophy, presented by Dick Buckley. The Kimberly-Clark Annual Mixed bonspiel trophy, presented by Grant Puttock, Mill Man- ager, was awarded to Jack Chapman, Shirley Richards, Howie Cooke and Mary Clare Kennedy. Seagram's trophy for Ladies Tuesday night curling went to Peggy Wellings, Marj Liebrock, Brenda Chapman and Maureen Dickson. Molson's trophy was won by Ollie Chapman, Shirley Richards, Shirley Caron and Janet Roberts. - Laskin's trophy, presented by R. Cole, was won by Mary Hale, Rhea Beaulieu, Joyce Mer- cier and Barb Wise. This rink also won the Club Championship and the Island View Trophy presented by Dave Desrosiers.
