Vol. I7 No. 20 May 22, 1974 20¢ Per Copy KINSMEN CLUB OF TERRACE BAY CHARTERED ON FRIDAY, APRIL 5/74 On Friday, April 5th, I974 the Kinsmen Club of Schreiber Inc., officially chartered the Kinsmen Club of Terrace Bay. The gala evening started at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails followed by supper at 7 o'clock in the Legion Hall. The Legion ladies catered to the I26 Kinsmen, Kinettes and guests in attendance with a smorgasbord supper. The supper meeting opened with the singing bf The Queen followed by the Kin Song. Kin Doug Moore of Schreiber said Kin Grace. A Toast to the Association was given by Mike Cosgrove of Schreiber in which he stated that the Terrace Bay Club was the 590th in Canada. The National President George Irving re- plied to the toast by telling what I4 years in Kinsmen had meant to him and what he hoped it would do for the young men of Terrace Bay Kin Bob Cressman gave a toast to the lad- ies present and it was replied to by Kinette Sandra Quinton. An introduction of the head table followed and then a break was called while the tables were cleared. Upon resumption of the meeting Governor of District 2, Don Hutton spoke and personally shook each new Kinsmen's hand and welcomed them into the Association. Deputy Governor of Zone 4, Bruce Gordon then installed the first executive of the new Club. They were Presi- dent~-Claude Latour, Vice-President-Dick Mann- isto, Secretary-Jerry Dupas, Treasurer-Gerrie Dickson, Bulletin Editor-Sonny Helmink and Registrar-Archie Heinrich. TERRACE BAY COUNCIL QUOTES The first item of business, after the minut -es of the last Municipal Council meeting had béen approved, was a report by Reeve Roy Bray, on the recent Thunder Bay District Municipal League Convention. A motion was passed to prepare a by-law, authorizing the local theatre to hold Sunday movies the year round. A request was received from the First Terr- ace Bay Girl Guide Company to conduct a trav- elling bake sale on May 25th. This was appro- ved. A letter from the Ministry of Health stated that Terrace Bay would qualify as underservic- ed with respect to Dentistry. Terrace Bay will soon lose it's only dentist. Council will advertise, and hopefully the Ministry of Health will support an applicant, if approved by the Ministry. A letter from a local citizen asked for crossing guards during the summer months, to supervise the crossing of the highway by small children. Council discussed this at some len- gth, but decided it was not economically feas- ible. Lakehead University submitted a request for financial assistance, the cost approximately IO cents per capita. Council decided that more information was necessary regarding pro- posed development, and contributions from oth- er communities.
