Mrs. David McLellan and her sister, Miss Elma Haapa, have returned from a month's vis it with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lindberg in Duncan B.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Greg McLellan in'Nan- aimo. Rev. Frank T. Moore, of St. Steven's Church, Thunder Bay, took the morning service in St. John's Anglican Church when the Altar was adorned with Flowers of Hope, presented by the Schreiber/Terrace Bay Association for the Mentally Retarded. Prior to his sermon, Rev. Moore remarked coming to Schreiber was always a pleasure for him since St. John's Church was the first one he was in when he came to Canada from England in I926. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Glad of Toronto are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Norman Glad. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nicol and son Mark, of Vancouver, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Johnson. VERDONE : The funeral of the late Albert Verdone, whose death occurred in hospital on May 7th, following a long illness, was conducted by Father F. O'Flaherty, in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church in' Schreiber on May 9th. Prior to the church service Father O'Flaherty conducted other rites in the McNally Funeral Home. Honorary pall bearers were George Birch, George Fischer, Gus Krause, Tommy Bolan, Joe Campbell, and Bernard Paradis. "Active pall bearers were Arnold Almos, Bill Cook, Ernie Kelly, Gus Schmidt, Archie McColeman and Henry McChristie. Interment was in Schreiber Cemetery. Mr. Verdone's immediate survivors are his wife, the former Katie Cosgrove, two sons, Leon of Schreiber and Neil of I04 Keystone Crescent, Thunder Bay, one daughter, Diane of Ottawa, his mother Mrs. Verdone, two sis- ters, Helen Verdone and Mrs. Evangeline Breton, all of Montreal. Mr. Verdone, who was 64 years old, was a native of Montreal and in I924 came to Jack- fish where he was employed as boiler fireman, with the C.P.R. In I940 he came to Schreiber and went on the Road as a locomotive fireman, in which position he retired in I970 due to ill health. Mr. Verdone was a member of the Bro. of L.F. and E. - Locomotive Firemen and Engine- men, and associate member of the Royal Canad- ian Legion Branch 109, and, of the Chimo Senior Citizens' Club where when his health permitted, he enjoyed meeting former comrades on the 'Road' and a quiet game of cards - his favourite pastime. : Among those attending the funeral, from out of town, were Miss Diane Verdone, Ottawa; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Verdone, Mr. and Mrs. R. Fenton, Mrs. L. Cosgrove, Mr. Gus Schmidt, Mr. Henry McChristie, all of Thunder Bay; Mrs. E. Breton, Montreal, Mr. E. Cosgrove, Toronto; Mr. Arnold Almos, Terrace Bay. Also attend- ing the service were Mr. Verdone's many friends from earlier days in Jackfish, now residing in Schreiber.
