MAY I, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 HOMES FOR THE AGED BOARD MEETING The regular monthly meeting was held on April 25, I974 at Pinewood Court. Routine business was completed first. Four applica- tions for residents were approved. Accounts for the months of February and March for Pine- wood Court and Birchwood Terrace were passed for payment. Progress billings on the work at Birchwood were also passed for payment to the Management Contractors Barnett-McQueen. Five members of staff from the two homes and two board members were authorized to attend the Regional Conference of Homes for the Aged in Fort Frances on May 9th and IOth. Housekeepin Supervisor, Mina Mahoney, was authorized to attend a two week certificate course in Toron- to at Sir John Brown's College, initiated by the Senior Citizens' Bureau. Milton Vibert, Administrator for Homes for Senior Citizens in this district will attend McMaster University for one week in relation to the course for administrators offered by this university. Approval has been received from the Ministry for capital purchases of a wheelchair bus. The Board's portion has been raised by the Residents! Council and the Ladies Auxiliary to Pinewood Court. The mini bus will cost $8,100.00 and will seat five wheelchairs. It is also equipped with a hydraulic lift. Spadoni Motors was the successful bidder. The present delivery date is approximately May i5. Pinewood Court will receive a new Natural Gas Water Heater - total cost is $3,700.00. This will give us an alternative means of heat- ing and help reduce the peak load. The peak electrical load is during the winter months. The renovations at Birchwood Terrace are proceeding on time. The ceilings have been completed and rooms presently are being paint- ed. The Management Contractors, Barnett- McQueen have assured the Board that they will have the building ready for the May 3Ist open- ing. Residents have picked the wallpaper that will be used on one wall in their respective rooms. Invitations to the opening May 3Ist at 2 p. m. will be in the mail by the first of May. A special effort is being made to have all heads of council attend the opening from all sixteen municipalities. There will be a bro- chure outlining the program with some back- ground information about the role of the two homes, Birchwood and Pinewood. Board member, Margaret Sideen is currently on the lookout for a broad axe to cut the ribbon rather than the normal pair of scissors.
