PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY I,:1974 SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Highlights of Schreiber Town Council meetin April 22nd. i Funds in the amount of $55,750. have been approved by the Ministry of Treasury, Econom- ics and Intergovernmental Affairs, under the Winter Project Fund to be used in converting the former post office into a Health Centre. . In response to an urgent request from The McCausland Hospital Board, Schreiber council accepted .a sharing ratio of 25% for Schreiber and 75% for Terrace Bay regarding capital ex- penditures incurred by the Hospital Board and that an advance on I974 capital assistance be given in order to cover the joint need for $2,898.00 in connection with the portion of the capital cost in relation to the heating project at the Hospital. Water works bills of $908.38 and general accounts amounting to $2628.42 were approved for payment. The resignation of Mrs. Mary Zombori, clerk ~treasurer for the past ten years, was accept- ed with regret, and A.J. Gauthier, formerly assistant clerk appointed to replace Mrs. Zombori. Mrs. Debbie Schmiedchen was hired as assistant clerk, with both her and Mr. Gauthier's contracts to be reviewed at the end of six months. RUBY REBEKAH LODGE MEETING Mrs. Bern Whent was welcomed back, after many months illness, at the meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge #279 on April 24th. Mrs. Dora Weaver reported on the district meeting which she, with Mrs. Beth Macadam and Mrs. Helen Wallace, had attended on April I3, saying Mrs. Marion Young, P.N.G. of Sapphire Lodge, Thunder Bay, had been recommended for the office of District Deputy President for the coming term. A D.D.P. chain collar was dedicated in memory of the late S.G.M., Mr. P. V. Ibbetson and Mrs. Millicent Ibbetson - the badge of office suitably inscribed. Cards of thanks were received from Mrs. Aggie Sinkins and Mrs. Della Moore, the lat- ter having received her I5 year jewel. It was agreed to serve the lunch at the wedding reception for Joyce Cluett and Barry Gilmore on August. I7th - Mrs. Elizabeth Harris volunteering to convene this. Mrs. Lil Harris, N.G. and Mrs. Gladys Ham- ilton, V.G. presided for the meeting. Following the meeting a social was enjoyed, with Mrs. Hamilton convening a Cake Walk to music provided by Mrs. Agnes Bryson, and lunch served. The agreement is to be signed for the des- ign and provision of plans for the Cooks Lake Dam. -Requests received included one from C.° Commisso to have water installation at his lots on Winnipeg Street, and from Burton Phil- lips to have drainage on Winnipeg St. improved ~The CP Rail will be contacted in this latter matter. Permission was granted to the McCausland Hospital Board to use tables from the town hall for their Charity Ball on May IOth. The Child Welfare Association sent notice of the appointments of Gordon Chisholm of Mar- athon and Fred Broome of Conmee to the Board. Notice was received of the Thunder Bay District Municipal League convention on May 3rd and 4th beginning with luncheon. The membership fee of $I0.00 was paid to thse District Fire Aid Association who are holding a convention in Dorion in May. Reeve H.J. McParland advised council of C.P. Rail's intention to donate $I0,000 toward the cost of the Medical Centre. A letter of appreciation was sent to G.A. Swanson, C.P. Rail Supt. in Schreiber for the past two years, for his co-operation with the council and his interest in community projects Mr. Swanson has been transferred to Calgary. The Terrace Bay Recreation Department wishes to announce that a Ladies' Keep Fit Program- me will be offered again this Spring. LADIES' KEEP FIT PROGRAMME - Instructress for this -course will be Sue Bulawka. - two sessions will be held weekly on - Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Terrace Bay Campus auditorium. Sessions will be held as fol lows: MAY /TH AND 9TH MAY 14TH AND 16TH MAY 21ST AND 23RD MAY 23TH AND 30TH - course is restricted to a maximum of 30 people. - Programme fee as fol lows: Recreation members - $2.50 Non-Recreation members - $5.00 payable at the Recreation Office before the course begins. .
