You might remember that the big hero in the Montreal win over the Manhatten Blueshirts == when it counted most -- was Pete (Peter Puck, they call him now) Mahovlich. The big (6'5") left winger scored two goals to up his season total to 34, I think. Up until that important win over the Rang- ers, the Canadiens had been having their prob- lems, having lost three straight (9-2 to Rangers, 6-0 to Philadelphia and 4-3 to Cali- fornia) games. "What's Pete Mahovlich trying to do, win the Lady Byng Trophy? He's playing great hock- ey, but he's playing polite hockey. I was at the Los Angeles Kings game when Pete hit a guy with his stick and he went over and apologized to him after the play. I couldn't believe it. Don't apologize to him, even if it was an accident. Tell him you'll take his head off the next time, if anything." Fergie, in his Montreal newspaper comments, also complained about other Canadiens who should be throwing their weight around.
