DECEMBER I9, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 31 CHRISTMAS CAROL SINGING AT BIRCHWOOD TERRACE Saturday evening, December I5th was a spec- lal time for the Senior Citizens in Birchwood lerrace, the home for the aged in Terrace Bay. Before a crackling log fire in the beauti- fully decorated lounge, a group of local mus- icians under the leadership of Peter Vanderkam and David Barnett played a medley of songs and Christmas carols, in a gay sing-a-long for seventy people from both Schreiber and Terrace Bay. Many a tear glistend on smiling faces as the Community Church junior choir with Mrs. Margaret McKague sang their soft sweet Christ- mas songs around the twinkling Christmas tree, so enchanted were the old folks that the "Hosanna" choir stayed on to NEW BOOKS 'Among the interesting new books now on the shelves in the Schreiber Public Library are: Playboy Host and Bar Book; Playboy Gourmet; Pearl Buck's Oriental Cookbook; Northern Italian Cooking; Mastering the Art of French Cooking; The Highlander's Cookbook; Encyclo- pedia of Antiques (Ramsay, L.); Catalogue of Catalogues (Iglessea, I.); How to Win At Chess (Horowitz, I.); Emily Post's Etiquette (Revised); The First Deady Sin (sanders, L.); Ernie Richardson Curling; The Gold of the Gods (Denekien, E.); A Wreath of Carols for piano and guitar; 838 Ways to Amuse a Child (Johnson, J.). sing one or two more songs after their first appearance. Lunch and coffee, with koolaid for the children was donated by the Ladies of the Community, and was served from a lovely decorated table set in the Christmas theme, with a Pointsetta centre piece, members of the junior choir served the guests and visitors. It was very much appreci- ated by the group, to have the Staff of Birchwood Terra- ce and so many citizens volun- teer baking and their time for this endeavour, especial- ly the musicians who so whole -heartedly practiced for this first Christmas Sing-a-long for our Senior Citizens, without all their encourage- ment and enthusiasm a Merry wish you fun-filled holidays. Christmas night of song could not have been complete. The Christmas spirit certainly prevailed among the old and the young alike during the evening.
