DECEMBER I2, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 17 SCHREIBER LEGION AUXILIARY The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch I09, at their December 4th meeting made two important donations: $I00.00 to the Legion, Winnipeg Command committee to assist in the purchase of two wheelchair ambu- lances to be used in transportating veterans to and from Deer Lodge, for treatments and to recreation events. And $I00.00 to the Auxil- iary to the McCausland Hospital to be used as they decide. The Annual Sweetheart Bonspiel was set for February 22nd and 23rd and it was decided that in future the Valentine date would be asked for when the rink was setting up its program for the season. The next regular meeting was set for Jan. 8th when there will be an exchange of gifts and sampling of Christmas cakes, with Iris Lidkea, Lillian MacDonald and Beth Macadam as hostesses. Members were reminded that the two gifts for the Christmas hamper must be turned in be- fore December I6th. Linda Poulin was welcomed as a new member. Ethel Nesbitt and Barbara Smart reported their fund-raising activities Were going well. Jean Crook, for the Sick and Visiting comm- ittee, reported Mrs. Annie LeBlanc, long-time member of this auxiliary. and presently living in Pinewood Court, had suffered injuries in a fall. 2 - Georgina Davis read a bulletin from the Peace Garden committee and it was agreed to discuss, in the Spring, the possibility of sending students. Christmas greetings were received from Man- itouwadge Ladies Auxiliary and Mrs. Doris 'Vallant, first vice-president, Provincial Command, Ladies Auxiliaries. It was reported Mr. A. Almos had made an excellent job of repairing the damage to the Legion piano and the bill referred to the Schreiber recreation committee. The financial statement for the year was read and members were gratified at the funds they had raised. Rena Ross and Avila Richardson consented to act as auditors for the year. Meeting dates will again be placed on the Kinette calendar. ? Gail Welbourne volunteered to convene the installation dinner with Charlotte Miller, Brenda Harper, Georgina Davis and Lorraine Huard assisting her. At this juncture Barbara Ann McLaughlin, retiring president, thanked the members on be- half of her executive for the support given them and turned the meeting over to Jean Crook in-coming president. Mrs. Crook was successful in acquiring thé following officers for installation: Chris Morris, membership convener; Inez McCuaig, press; Ethel Smith, musician; Ethel Nesbitt, draw convener; Barbara Smart, social evening convener; Georgina Davis, sports convener; Charlotte Miller, Pat Moore, Wendy Martin, telephone committee; Lorraine Huard, Sunday kitchen convener. SCHREIBER ART CLASSES Schreiber Art Club has concluded a success- ful I0-week fall art course through the effor- ts of the Continuing Education Division of the Confederation College of Art and Technology of Thunder Bay. : The classes, beginning September 24, were held weekly in the Schreiber Public School with forty-three students registered and had an average attendance of over 90%. The course was divided to accommodate both beginners and more experienced painters and exciting projects were experienced by all. The enthusiastic students are making plans for another IO-week course to commence the middle of March, I974, with plans for colour theory and new techniques. Portraiture sess- . ions will be included for interested students. Following the final Monday evening class, lunch was served and Mrs. Helen Strickland of - | Thunder Bay, course instructor, was presented with an amusing scroll, depicting various mem- bers in characteristic attitudes, at work, uttering familiary, unkind comments about their talents. : Once again, the I0-week course just slipp- ed by, however, Mrs. Strickland came to the resuce by inviting all students to extra paint- ing sessions Tuesday afternoon and evening. Mrs. Strickland also complimented the students on their achievements during the course. LEGION BOWLING Ted Velanoff was the high bowler Friday night. He had a 728 series including a 3I4 game. This is the men's high single to date and Ted is the first 300 club member for the 73/74 season. , Team standings to Dec. 7th: Spitfires 32; Bombardiers 27; Irish Regiment 23; Corvettes 23.
