¢ OCTOBER 24, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 WOMEN'S INSTITUTE WELCOME GUESTS Mrs. Anne Todesco, who presided, welcomed the following guests at the Schreiber Women's Institute October meeting - Mrs. Cathy Davis, of Hurkett, District President; Mrs. Phyllis Grann, of Pass Lake, District Secretary; Mrs. Rebekah Johnson, of Thunder Bay, Provincial Representative; Mrs. Anne LeBlanc of Pinewood Court and Mrs. Mabel Bell of Thunder Bay. The roll call was answered by giving names of Canadian authors and books they have writt- en. : Mrs. Kay Verdone presented the financial statement and Mrs. Winnie Clemens read past minutes and correspondence which included the resignation of Mrs. Eirene Harness which was atcepted with regret. A spray was ordered for presentation on Remembrance Day ceremonies. Mrs. Eunice Bolan gave a resume of programs during the year and contributions made to the community in various ways. Mrs. Todesco presented an excellent report of the area convention held in Thunder Bay, September I8-I9, naming the many officers attending and the 47 branches represented. Mrs. Johnson said the first purpose of the Institute are still the important ones --- soci- al contacts, education in wide areas and home economics in the broadest sense. The many labour saving devices now used by housewives has indeed given them free hours, but now they are expected to take part in many more activi- ties outside the home. To such an extent that the mother frequently has to assess such work 'and make choices of the ones she will continue to support and still have the necessary time with her family. The great attraction of the W.I. is that there are no lines of race, colour, creed, politics or social position. Mrs. Agnes Bryson was pianist for the meet- ing followed by penny auction and a supper.
