LEBLANC CELEBRATES 80 BIRTHDAY Mrs. Anastasia (Annie) LeBlanc, of Pinewood Court, spent her 80th birthday with her family and friends in Schreiber and Terrace Bay. The happy event, on October 4th, began with a family dinner in St. Martin's Hall in Terr- ace Bay, attended by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur LeBlanc, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gilmour, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cebrario with children Brian and Laura, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar LeBlanc, with child- ren Carole LeBlanc and Mike, Bill and Shelley Souliere, Mr. and Mrs. John Santerre with children Mark, Mary Pat, Guy, Peter and lara, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond LeBlanc with children Dennis and Albert of Lynn Lake, Man., and Mrs. Nellie Mykichuk. Father Alex Greengrass said Grace and Arth- ur LeBlanc, M.C. called on the family for tributes to their mother, followed by a laugh- ing exchange of childhood pranks. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Arthur LeBlanc held open house in their home in Schreiber for the many friends who called with gifts and con- gratulations to Grandma LeBlanc. Mr. and Mrs. George Lehto have returned from a long holiday in B.C. visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young in Prince George and taking several tours about the province. Mrs. Uwe Hansen has returned to her home in Toronto after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Don Beno - Mrs. Beno going with Mrs. Hansen for a week's holiday. Mrs. Charlie Boon and Mrs. Jack McCouan are visiting relatives in Chapleau, Powassin and Folyet. Debra Lynn Birch daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Birch is pleased to announce the arriv- al of her chosen sister Karen Louise. U.C.W. PLAN CHRISTMAS BAZAAR-TEA Mrs. Bern Whent reported, at the October | meeting of the United Church Women, that Mr. Chris Mather, has consented to speak at two services a month for regular services in St. Andrew's United Church. She also, for the official board, reported the annual Fall Fair was most successful. ; December first was set as the day for the Christmas bazaar-tea, to bé held in the town hall, with a Raggedy Ann doll as one of the draw prizes. An appeal was received from the Wayside Centre in Thunder Bay, for donations to the Indian Mission in the Red Lake area and for clean used clothing - both to be sent to Way- side for dispersal. The general public is invited to respond to the clothing appeal - giving them to any UCW member. Mrs. Margaret Spillane reported on cards sent to sick and bereaved in the community. Mrs. Beth Macadam read some interesting ex- cerpts from a book by an artist who had visit- ed Schreiber in I9I3 and 1928, containing some of the sketches made of the area, and some entertaining accounts of struggles with the wild country, including being lost once while trying to reach Schreiber beach on Lake Super-- ior. Mrs. Winnie Clemens presided for the meet- ing. : ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY The Northwestern Ontario Royal Canadian Legion Sports Foundation met last week to fin=- alize plans for the Mid Canada Elementary School Cross Country Championship to be held at Lakehead University on Saturday October 20th at 2 p.m. Race Co-ordinator George Walters reported that to date entries have been re- ceived from Kenora, Gerladton, Manitouwadge, as well as six (6) Thunder Bay Elementary Schools. A Kenora elimination meet was schedule for Saturday, October I3th to select their boys and girls team to enter the Mid Canada Champ- ionship this week in Thunder Bay. All reports indicate that they will have a strong contin- gent of both Joys and girls on hand. Saint Annes girls and Kingsway Park boys of Thunder Bay will have their work cut out for them to retain the championships won in 1972. Billet Chairman Jack Wright announced that billets will be arranged for all visiting athletes. The members of Thunder Bay legions' have been asked to assist in hosting the continued page I6
