SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Highlights of the September meeting, .Schrei- ber Municipal Council: The Ministry of Treasury, Economics and Intergovernmental Affairs, advised that coun- cil's application for a loan under Winter Works Capital Projects fund has been approved, to assist in the building of a new dam (for town water supply) for Schreiber. The same Ministry also stated that the amount of Schreiber's grant under the property stabilization Act is $42,029.00. H.H. Graham, Commissioner O.P.P. advised that an additional police officer will be trans -ferred to the Schreiber Detachment, effective September 24th. It was decided not to purchase a recreation bus - it being more feasible to rent one when required. The commercial rate of $I5.40 per quarter was set for the laundromat business establish- ed in town. Water services were approved for three lots on Winnipeg Street. A memorandum from the Ministry of Community and Social Services suggested a new system of selecting members for the Homes for the Aged: seven members, two at large, appointed by the Lieut. Governor in Council on recommendation of the Ministry, plus five chosen by partici- pating municipalities - Schreiber and Terrace Bay would have a member, chosen jointly. Council favoured this suggestion. Burton Phillips requested that street light be installed on the extension of Winnipeg St. and that the road be properly graded and drain -age installed. Council will contact the local Hydro commission regarding the lighting and In regard to a proposal for New Province for Northwestern Ontario, council agreed the, idea has merit but are not ready to support it at the present time. Water accounts of $45.58 and general acco- unts of $1303.58 were passed for payment. Councillor R.A. Krause stated the Ministry of Natural Resources is looking after the closing of 'the gravel pit in the south end of the town. A photograph of W.W. Wadlund@, the first reeve of Schreiber is to be hung in the coun- cil chamber. Council chose Scheme 3, (M.M. Dillon report) for construction of the new dam for the town water supply and will request the C.P.R. to join the township on the 50-50 basis according to the existing agreement, and, council consi- der this priority project. The plan for a medical centre prepared by G.A. Swanson, C.P.R. Supt. (and engineer) was studied and suggestions made by Dr. M. Spacek considered. : Prices-will be sought for a ten ton floor jack for the town garage. CHIMO CLUB Sixty-two members attended the dinner meet- ing of the Chimo Club, held on September 2Ist in the Schreiber town hall. Lester McCuaig, president, was M.C. with Ed Cavanaugh saying Grace. e Jack Stokes, M.L.A. was the guest speaker, talking most informally, since most of the members had watched him grow up, saying, in some 35 communities he had visited he had not met a similar association with more enthusiasm than this group, which made him very proud.
