She was accompanied by Mrs. Mary Mac- Donald of Thunder Bay. Maxine Hubelit has returned from a holiday in Thunder Bay with relatives. Mrs. Audrey Nicol has left for Toronto to attend the Gift and Novelty convention. Laurie Anne Mushquash has obtained employ- ment in Sioux Lookout. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gerow and family have returned from a holiday in Espanola and Sud- bury. . Adolph King has left to visit his son Peter and family at Espanola. Walter Gerow and family have returned from a holiday at Parieienne Island Lighthouse near Sault Ste. Marie with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hubelid Mrs. Lenard Ibey and Mrs. Anne Todesco were business visitors to Thunder Bay during the week. Miss Shirley Bouchard of Thunder Bay is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. R. Bouchard. Mrs. Mary Mushquash is visiting relatives in Longlac and Geraldton. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Legault were business visitors to Thunder Bay during the week. ALTAR SOCIETY RESUME MEETINGS Mrs. Prina Gerow hosted the St. Berchman's Altar Society members Wednesday evening when they resumed their meetings following the sum- mer recess. A cash and miscellaneous prize bingo was planned to take place on September 24th. : Following the opening prayers the minutes were approved as read and the financial state- ment adopted as' presented by Mrs. Todesco. Ths president reported that the sprinklers .and hose were stored for the winter and through vandal- ism the sprinklers had been broken several times during the summer and had to be repaired Several dénations were gratefully received to- wards the organ fund. Following the closing exercises the hostess served luncheon and a social hour was enjoyed. INTERMEDIATE HOCKEY MEETING Friday, September 28th at 8:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Recreation Centre. All interested players, coaches wel- come. SMALL HOSPITALS CONFERENCE Fifty representatives of eighteen small hos -pitals in northern Ontario attended an Ontar- io Hospital Association sponsored Conference in Sault Ste. Marie on September 5th, with the theme "The Smaller Hospital - Coordinator and Provider of Health and Welfare Services". Speakers were: --- Dr. E.W.R. Best of the Comm- unity Health Protection Branch, Ministry of Health; Mr. D. Cornish, a Regional Administra- tor of the Ministry of Community and Social Services; Mrs. L.A. Remus, City Alderman from Thunder Bay speaking on behalf of the Consumer -s; and Dr. J.C. Baldwin, Area Coordinator, Ministry of Health. The meeting was chaired by Miss Paula Hoffman, Administator, Wilson Memorial General Hospital, Marathon. In his paper, Dr. Best stressed the need for a greater opportunity for involvement by local Medical Officers of Health in community health services. He suggested that each hospital could have a two man Liaison Committee on Pre- ventive Medicine to explore the areas of comm- on interest to the hospital and the Medical Officer of Health with a view to co-operative planning. continued page I8 SCHREIBER MINOR HOCKEY ~The Schreiber Minor Hockey will hold a meeting on Friday, September 28th at 7:30 P.M. in the Public School.
