AUGUST I, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I3 NEW ENGLISH CLASS The most jubilant graduates in many years was the New Canadian English Class taught by Katie Verdone. Many of the seventeen members, of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay were already proficient in English but interested in per- fecting their pronounciation and enlarging their vocabulary. The group celebrated the end of their winter classes with a social even -ing with many national dishes enjoyed. Ph by M i COUPLE CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Turner were honoured on their 25th Wedding Anniversary at a party arranged by neighbours and friends, with M-. and Mrs. Roy White of Marathon also attending. In token of their friends good wishes Alex Krystia presented a Money Tree and a Scrap Book which particularly amused the Turners. The book made up by their friends contained descriptions of events in the Turners lives since they went to Terrace Bay in I948 where Mr. Turner was a Telegrapher with the C.P.R. Following that they were transfered to Marath- on, coming to Schreiber in I956 were Mr. Turn- er is a Train Dispatcher. Mr. and Mrs. Burke Trowsee (nee Jill McCuaig) and daughter D'Arcy of Dartmouth Nova Scotia are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lester McCuaig. INCREASES IN BENEFITS Increases in the amount of benefits payable under Ontario's Workmen's Compensation system are expected to add approximately $I2 million a year to the total now paid to the province's injured workman and their dependents. The in- creases in cash benefits and in pensions be- came effective on July Ist under amendments to the Workmen's Compensation Act approved by the Ontario Legislature. Ontario workmen now have the highest maximum compensation levels in Canada. These benefits apply to persons involved in accidents occuring on or after July Ist, I973.
