PAGE 6 TERRACE BAY NEWS JULY 11,1973 ST. MARTIN'S GRADUATION BANQUET Graduation exercises for St. Martin's Separ- ate School in Terrace Bay was preceded by Mass in St. Martin's of Tours at 6.30. The choir was directed by Sister Paulette Hatfield, ac- companied by Celine Landry at the organ and David Mercier on guitar. The reader for the Mass was Leigh-Ann McBride and the Offertory Gifts taken by Judy Zwaresh and Mike Fournier. Hymns were sung by the choir from the grades 5,6 and 7. Supper was served in the Parish Hall at 7.15 convened by Mrs. M. Santerre and the Grade 7 mothers. O Canada was sung, with Celine Landry at the piano and Grace was said by Father Green grass. John Corrigan thanked the Grade 7 moth- ers for an excellent supper. Graduation exercises took place in the new auditorium, recently added to St. Martin's school. Invocation was given by Father Green- grass. Principal M. Anderson introduced the guest speaker, Brother Robbie Robertson of Thunder Bay, who kept the students and indeed the adults spellbound with his act as a Magi- cian. He congratulated the students of Grade 8 on their achievements and wished them well as they to on to higher learning. Peter Dashkew- ytch thanked Brother Robbie. George Ramsay, Chairman of the Separate School Board, brought greetings from the Board. To begin the presentation of awards and prizes, Mrs. E. Ramsay presented each graduate with a pin, courtesy of the Catholic Women's League, of which she is president. St. Martin's School Proficiency Award was presented to Joan Campbell, by M. Anderson. Joan Campbell was also awarded the Calder Mem- orial Award for her general proficiency ability to get along with teachers and fellow students and being an all round good student. For im- provement over the past year, the recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, Ladies Auxiliary Award was presented to Richard Kenne- dy by Mrs. Jean Megraw. The Knights of Colum- bus Award for general improvement went to Helga Hermes, presented by M. Nicol. In special subject awards, the student who showed the most interest, promise and general high marks for History went to Kelly Helmink, presented by E. McAdam; for Geography =- David Mallais, presen- ted by J. St.Amand; Mathematics = John Corrigan from M. Anderson; French - Mary Waghorn from Mme. L. Cormier; English - Judy Zwaresh from E. McAdam. The Most Deserving Students Awards were presented by M. Anderson to Leigh-Ann McBride and Ernest Theriault. Karen Nicol than- ked the various organizations for prizes and awards.
