PAGE I6 TERRACE BAY NEWS JUNE 27, I973 CHIMO CLUB MEETING The regular June meeting of the Schreiber Chimo Club was held in St. Martin's Hall, Terr- ace Bay, with Lester McCuaig presiding. Katie Verdone, corresponding secretary, read a letter from J.L. Lorette, president Senior Citizens of Ontario, regarding hearings being held by Ontario Federation of Labour to look into problems of senior citizens, naming places and dates of hearings, the one concerning this club, in Thunder Bay on July 5th.; information from Dr. A.G. Barton, program Director of New Horizons rug hooking program, stating he would be interested in meeting the club to discuss a course, in which material would be free of charge. A letter received in May from Angela Martin- sen, Field Representative, New Horizon program stating there will not be an office of full- time staff in Northwestern Ontario, but she may be contacted at her home, by mail, in Nolalu and, any problems or questions requiring an im-~ mediate reply should be directed to Kat Smith at the Ontario Regional Office in Islington. Katie then read her own letter of protest regarding this, describing the difficulty - seemingly impossibility of establishing commun- 1 ication with this office. r She also read Harry Costall's detailed re- port on renovations, repairs and alterations re. --quired in the new centre. Lester McCuaig said he spoke with a person involved in Ontario Housing who felt there could well be an opportunity for Schreiber to acquire low rental housing for senior citizens. Ida Krause reported a recent fund-raising project most successful. It was agreed to hold the next meeting on July 20th in Rossport, with a potluck supper to follow the meeting. The 3 meeting and supper will be for members only, but the social evening in the recreation hall is open to the public. Bern Jacomb volunteered to act as card sec- : retary. Several new committees were elected. Katie Verdone's offer to attend the Senior Cit -izen's annual Ontario convention in Sudbury, at her own expense as club representative was gratefully accepted. Ed Cavanaugh read the resolution he had prepared to present to the McCausland Board of Governors, protesting the by-law banning citizens 70 years old from be- ing elected to the Board, and this was approv- ed.
