AT JUNE MEETING The United Church Women began their June meet -ing with a dinner in the Mayfair Hotel after vhich they went on to the Church hall for the yusiness meeting, with Mrs. Wesley Clemens pre- 5iding in the absence of Mrs. Walter Dukes. Mrs. Russell Macadam read the Scripture pass- age and Mrs. Norma Fummerton gave the opening rayer. Mrs. George Lehto agreed to continue clean- ing the church for the summer months. Mrs. Macadam announced plans for the offici- 11 board's penny auction on June I5th in the "hurch hall. A donation of $300.00 was made to the Board. The resignation of Mrs. Dukes as president vas accepted with the utmost regret, not only for her great capability, but, for her nature vith which had enlivened many a meeting. Mrs. Dukes is leaving for a new home in Mount Forest, her husband having accepted a pos- ition with the high school staff there after spending five years in Schreiber. Mrs. Clemens agreed to fill in the president- 's term and Mrs. Lillian Christie will act as vice-president - each with the stipulation they will not act as conveners. Members volunteered to assist with a wedding iinner on September first. Mrs. Helen Jartus, now residing in Oliver, B.C. wrote thanking the U.C.W. for a gift, in appreciation of St. John courses she had given. The Bible Society, North Bay, wrote thanking the U.C.W. for money raised for their work. Several members indicated interest in attend -ing the Retreat planned for September I5 - 22 The Chimo Club sent a request for a dinner menu for June 22nd. The minutes and treasurer's report were adopted as read by Mrs. Tommy Whent and Mrs. Nettie Thrower. Following the meeting several contests were run by Mrs. Clemens and tea and cakes served. LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING Pat Moore, treasurer, at the regular June meeting of the Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch I09, read a most appreciative acknowledgement from the Thunder Bay Salvation Army for the $4I2.05 which had been collected in Schreiber - an annual project of the Auxil- iary. In tentative plans made for the Legion Field] Day, Edna Cocks volunteered to take charge of the barbeque foods, Ethel Nesbitt will manage the draw for the day, Maureen Costall, Isabel Delaronde and Jean Crook will run the bingo. The men's draw prize will be for a canoe - a popular prize. Mrs. Paxson, district representative, sent information regarding the proper wearing of pins, badges and medals. Iris Lidkea reported sending parcels to Schreiber veterans at the Lakehead. It was agreed to provide a cold plate supp- er for those attending the Branch zone meeting being held in Schreiber on June I6th. Barbara McLaughlin, who presided, thanked Maureen Costall for taking the inventory of the kitchen cupboard and Chris Dunham and Bob- bie Winters for cleaning windows in the Legion hall. The minutes and treasurer's report was adopted as read by Bea McCuaig and Pat Moore. * An interesting dialogue took place this week when Miss Barbara Dick arranged for some of her grade 6 students to interview Lester McCuaig, retired train conductor on the sub- ject of pensions, using the infallible, Who, Where, When and Why method. Thirty associates and friends from Schrei- ber attended the dinner held in Marathon to honour E.J. Morgan retiring Director of Educa- tion of the Lake Superior School Board.
